My family was big on Kerry Blue Terriers when I was growing up, so I've spent most of my life around some amazing dogs. Our neighbors trusted me to watch their dogs whenever they were out of town when I was a teenager, and it was a good way to get to have a fun, quiet - or rowdy, depending on the dog - evening with dogs I knew well. Making some pocket money was a nice bonus, too! Last year my wife and I rescued our favorite dog in the world, Bandit (Boxer, Pitbull, German Shepherd mix)! He's high-drive, full of energy, and absolutely crazy, but we love him so much! Working with him on his more challenging traits - he is dog reactive and often gets nervous around things like cars - has made me much more knowledgeable about dog behavior and how they interact with the world. I have a much greater appreciation for what they're trying to communicate, whether it's serious needs or silly displays of their love for their family! Most of my friends are dog owners, and their pets lose their minds whenever I come over! I've got a knack for becoming one of their favorite people to see, and my friends love how happy their dogs get when I visit. It always makes my day to see them too, even if I sometimes have to catch myself and not spend the *entire* time rolling around with them! Suffice to say, I've always been a huge dog person and I don't see that ever changing. My dog experiences have made me a fun and loving owner, but I've also gotten more serious as an adult about reading their body language, respecting their space, and figuring out their needs. I'm so excited to see what amazing dogs Rover gives me the opportunity to meet!
