Dogs and cats have been a large part of my life for the past 25 years. I grew up on a farm, having several dogs (& varies other animals) living outdoors. It wasn't until I moved out on my own until I experienced living with dogs indoors. Caretaking started with my old roommates super sweet large pitbull (rescue), that I would take care of while she was out of town. The trend caught on and now I care for several dogs while people go on trips or are at work all day. As far as my working style, I observe the dogs energy at first, to get to know them, then try to calm them and make them feel comfortable and relaxed by making sure their needs are met and beyond. Happy dog, happy home :) The pitbull rescue I work with has high anxiety, when the owner traveled in the past, she would board him at a dog sitting business. Every time she would return home, Willie, the pitbull, would be visibly thinner and would have marks on his skin from scratching, due to his nervous habits. When I started keeping Willie, the owner was pleasantly surprised to see Willie in top notch condition every time she returned home. I truly believe pets should be treated with has much care and respect as you would if you were looking after a child.
