Just like one of the family!

Pet care experience

I'm a foster mom with PAWS New England and love to dog sit on the side. People go away, and don't want to put their dogs in a kennel. I offer my home to people that want a quality place for their pet to stay while they are away, a place where they will know their loved one will be well cared for. We have an adult male Chinook as well as a young sweet female rescue lab/shepard/chow mix so your dog can have as much fun or as much relaxation as they want! We also have fosters come in and out of the house so there is always something going on! Our boarding buddies always love staying with us and never want to leave! When they come and stay with us, they are treated like one of the family ! About this sitter: My personality type is "The Helper"... I do anything and everything I can to help others. When it comes to rescuing dogs, I'm all in. I wish I could save them all and it keeps me awake at night. I'm easy going and easy to get along with. I love my dogs and treat them like my children, which some people think thats weird, but they are obviously not dog people. Thats what I tell myself, and my dogs and I'm sticking to it! Why I love dog sitting I've been a dog lover my entire life. I've grown up with dogs and have always had them in my home. I grew up with a poodle named Melissa Sue and a wire haired terrier named Baby. When I got my own place at 22 I got a Jack Russell Terrier, Julius who was 7 weeks old and at 26 I got Cali, also a JRT, who was 8 weeks old. I have since been canine CPR certified and am confident in my skills as a handler. I adopted Rusty my foster dog from PAWS New England in 2013 when he was deemed unadoptable due to aggression and biting. I worked tirelessly with him and John Gagnon to alleviate his food aggression and to acclimate him to his surroundings. Ultimately, he was not safe to be around, and was very unpredictable. After almost 2 years of working with him, I had to make the decision to humanely euthanize him. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make in my life. Rusty and I bonded in a way that I cannot explain, and my heart broke when I had to make the painful decision to end his misery of being trapped inside his fearful, aggressive mind. I still miss him every day and wish I could have saved him, even though I know I did everything I could possibly could. Some decisions, as hard as they may be, need to be selfless for the sake of the dog. About my yard We live in Ledyard, CT and have about 1.5 acres of land, that currently is not fenced so Rover dogs are leash walked at potty time. (We plan to install fencing in springtime). We live right next to hiking trails that we take the dogs on daily hikes. The back yard is pretty flat and great for running and chasing balls for dogs with great recall offleash if desired/approved. We have kiddie pools in the summer for the dogs to cool off and enjoy the outside. My experience administering medication I am comfortable administering oral medications or insulin injections. Medicated baths are no problem as long as the dog is manageable.

Gina was awesome! She was really good about staying in touch with us leading up to and through out the stay sending us pictures of our pup while we where away. Our pup Lilly loved her stay and seemed so happy when we picked her up. Lilly loved Gina and especially loved her dogs, you could tell on the car ride home she was upset with us for taking her away from her new friends. I would highly recommend Gina as a sitter, she was so friendly and she really treated our dog as one of here own. We will definitely be using Gina again the next time we need a sitter!

Information Gina S. would like to know about your pet

We don't have any breed preferences. Our dogs are 100% OK with smaller and medium sized dogs. Sometimes, Abby can have protective issues with larger dogs of the bully breed. We definitely like to do meet and greets with these pups first so we can get a feel for everyone's likes/dislikes and reactions.

A typical day

Where we will walk your dog: We can take the pups for walks around the neighborhood, or swimming down at the beach. We also live right next to woods that we take our dogs hiking in, if your dog likes to hike. There is a local dog park that we enjoy taking the dogs to as well. Your dog's sleeping arrangement: When dogs stay with me, they have full reign of the house if owner is ok with it. They can sleep on the couch, floor, dog bed...wherever they feel comfortable. We try not to have them sleep on the bed because there are multiple dogs in the house, and it leaves no room for the humans! :) Time I'll spend with your dog: I spend as much time exercising dogs as needed. Night time is definitely time to relax and chill out as a family in the living room. The dogs love this time to relax and get cuddles.
