Pet care experience
I am an active pet parent that has six dogs of my own. I enjoy running with them and playing a variety of dog sports. In addition to my dogs, I have cats who have grown up around dogs. I have rabbits that do trick training with me and have plenty of free roam time. My current reptiles include an 11 year old turtle, a ball python, a dart frog, and hermit crabs. I also have finches (society and zebra) and a canary that love to sing at sunrise each morning and a conure named Arthur who has lots of things to say! BOARDING/DROP-IN VISITS: I am available to board or sit for your dogs, cats or small animals. I have experience caring for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, parakeets, doves, conures, numerous reptiles, and fish. I have fostered cats and kittens for the Iowa City animal shelter for many years and currently foster rabbits for A Home for EveryBunny, Iowa's only rabbit rescue. My preference for dog boarding is small/medium dogs or young puppies. I am able to board a maximum of two dogs at a time, so please contact me early to reserve your dates - especially around the holidays. Your dogs will live in my house as if they were one of my own dogs - enjoying many of the same activities. Interactions between your dogs and mine are limited unless all parties (human and canine) agree upon it. I am able to accommodate a maximum of two boarding cats at a time. Boarding cats will have their own room in my home and will not have any interaction with my own cats. Boarding cats will have plenty of space to climb and play and hide. I encourage you to bring your own litter box and litter. Cats do better with their own supplies! Bunnies or other small animals that board with me will be housed in a room that is separate from all other pets in the house. Safety of small animals boarding with me is the top priority. The door to the room where your small animal will be boarding will be kept closed to prevent the unexpected. This does not mean your small animal will not get attention - on the contrary the quiet room provides a great space for me to spend quality time with your pet without frightening them with strange noises, sights, or smells. Rover does not currently allow pet owners to choose a small animal when adding a pet to an account. I would encourage you to select "cat" but then add the type of small animal your pet is to the name of the small animal. This will help everyone identify your pet. If it easier for your small animal to remain in your home while you are gone, please select drop-in visits. Then, be sure to let me know how long each visit should be and with what frequency. If you are unsure, daily visits are recommended. Twice daily for animals that are used to more companionship is even better! If you prefer not to use a formal Rover account for your small animal, please contact me directly to arrange boarding or drop-in visits.
Reviews
Gillian was so sweet and loving and kept me up to date with all my pups daily activities. She responds quickly and knows a lot about puppies which was very helpful for us. Will be using her again :)
Awesome experience! It was my first time booking a boarding through rover and my 2 month old puppy's first time away from me. The second I brought her in, she quickly made herself at home and didn't even think to say bye to me when I left. My bold and energetic pup got along well with all of her well behaved dogs and was treated like one of her own. DEFINITELY booking again if I'm in the area.
Gillian is great with my rabbits! They can be shy around visitors, but they are happy and binky with Gillian! She also takes care of my saltwater aquarium. I love that she always sends pictures and updates so I don’t worry about the pets while I’m away.
Gillian is great with our pup!

I have a fenced in backyard off my back door. The gate is secured and locked at all times. My front porch has a small gate to prevent any boarding dogs from exiting out the front door. Doors of the rooms that small animals board in have an outside lock to prevent anyone from accidentally opening the door to their space.

Information Gillian C. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your pet has any special needs. Dogs staying with me will spend brief periods of the day in a kennel - this is to allow my dogs and yours to have breaks from each other. It is helpful for dogs to be kennel trained before their stay with me.
A typical day
My neighborhood has great sidewalks and can be very quiet for walking dogs. My dogs and dogs boarding will get mental exercise as well as physical exercise both in the house and in the backyard. I am a big fan of treat puzzles especially when I need the dog to relax in a kennel. When the weather is nice (winter can be tricky in Iowa), we aim to take daily walks.

Availability
I work from home. This makes caring for your pet simple for me. Your boarding pet will be treated as one of my own. Boarding dogs can elect to join my other dogs on some of the adventures we take weekly (training, exercise, frisbee, etc.). Boarding cats and small animals get multiple visits per day from my myself and sometimes my kids (if this is acceptable to you). Those visits include cleaning, feeding, and interacting with them in whatever way they may prefer. For some small animals, this may mean watching tv together, playing with a toy, or just being in the same room and talking to them.
