Pet care experience
Who doesn't love dogs? But who do dogs love? That's me! Ever since I can remember, dogs have been drawn to me (and vice versa!). Of course, they always know a dog-lover when they see one! I was born into a household consisting of an older brother, parents, and grandparents, one of whom had a service dog (called a seeing-eye dog in those days) whose name was Jerry. My name is Gerri and you can imagine our deep connection. As an adult, my bond and understanding of animals, in particular dogs, has deepened. My own pets have been few, not because I don't love them beyond measure, but because often my circumstances haven't allowed unlimited time with them. The few pets I have owned were extraordinary beings and I still tell lovely stories about them. I believe our pets are a very accurate reflection of who we are and how we treat them. I will love your pets as if they are my own.

I live on a small farm near Durham, CT. There are horses on the property and a small fenced yard attached to my house. There are also hiking trails in the adjacent woods and a good deal of cleared land. Kind of a pet heaven, really. The farm owners have 2 small dogs who are mostly "house" dogs but do appear occasionally. They are friendly and can be a little barky. My mother lives next door and owns a mixed breed rescue who is lovely (Mom and dog) and available for playdates and hugs (Mom and dog!).
Information Gerri J. would like to know about your pet
Though I don't have breed preferences, I do prefer gentle dogs. Please no baying hounds for boading - I have neighbors! Also, any boarded dog should be well-behaved, especially indoors as I live in a rented space. I have experience with Greyhounds (owned 3) and Wolfhounds (2 owned by friends) and considerable sitting experience with Aussies and cattle dogs. My brother Jerry the Dog was a German Shepherd. Other favorites include Corgis, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Chihuahuas (I had one from the time I was 5 until adulthood), Standard and Miniature Poodles, Ridgebacks, etc...I don't remember ever meeting a dog I couldn't eventually charm and vice versa.
A typical day
Lots of outside time with hikes! Lots of inside time with hugs! Unless they don't care for either, then we can wing it. I am known to have long conversations with animals and have even taught a client's dog to say "I love you." Of course, I won't teach them anything without parental consent. Also, I own a Honda Element, a model that once won Dog Friendly Car of the Year and has a large pet area in back that can accommodate a very large dog or two and will always have a soft bed waiting. So, car rides!

Availability
I work part time but I am home every night and some days. I do go on occasional and brief camping excursions up north, and the right pet is welcome to accompany me on those jaunts. I am flexible with scheduling and would also appreciate regularly scheduled visits in my area.
