Visiting dogs treated like members of our family, with lots of love and outdoor / indoor play sessions for exercise! We're a private family and have cared for and enjoyed the companionship of dogs for decades. We have two friendly golden retrievers (Indigo 5 and Sally 13) and have had friends' and family dogs stay with us for many years. In 2011, we started in-home dog boarding and are having a blast. We generally consider 2-4 guest dogs max at a time. Big dogs and puppies welcome! We're located two minutes off the Merritt Parkway on the West Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton line and have a terrific dog-friendly property -- 2 acres of yard and wooded land set back off the road via long driveway. Several dog parks and hiking trails are nearby -- favorites are Cranbury Park, Dolce Conference Center, Waveny Park, Taylor Farm, and Westport's Compo Beach off season. The property has some natural boundaries in the woods, but it's important to know that the yard is not completely fenced. Guests who are good citizens at dog parks, stay around with the pack and their owners, and have good recalls for a treat, are usually a good fit for us. Our dogs and our guest dogs are never out unsupervised - we treat our property like a mini-dog park. Our home is 2500+ sf with ample dog gates and a few crates for flexible configurations to accommodate furry guests who prefer privacy or select company, and are particularly handy at meal times since we are a multi-dog household. Well-behaved and friendly guests generally have full run of the house, complete with lots of dog beds, toy baskets, and tennis balls. We're lucky to both work from home, so dogs staying with us have 24 hr care and attention. Our general routine is out for morning potty break, (with our coffee!), breakfast, and out again for a morning playgroup. Then come in to crash around the house for nap time while we get to work. We do another midday playgroup outside (or sometimes a jog on-leash or dog park outing), then back to work for the afternoon, followed by another late afternoon playgroup / romp in the yard before dinner. Often another outing after dinner and then the gang usually crashes for the evening until a goodnight potty break and bedtime. On weekdays we're in home offices or moving thru the house on conference calls, so dogs who are super high energy or persistent barkers can be challenging for us, so are generally not a good fit for us or them. We believe in positive training approaches. Our philosophy is pretty simple - consistent rules and routines, frequent romps and runs, and lots of rewards and rubs! We're all about fairness and separation or time outs as needed, so no dog feels threatened or overwhelmed. Our goal is to build trust at each dogs' pace, so our guests feel safe. We work with each owner to understand any unique needs or preferences. We recently 'graduated' from a round of pup thru advanced Obedience classes with Indigo our young golden, and have experience with Agility, Therapy Dog, Tricks, and Resource Guarding training. Drop-off and pick-up times are flexible, favorite dog beds and toys are welcome, and discounts are available for multiple dogs from one family. Fully insured and references available upon request. Indigo and Sally consider Meet and Greets mandatory for new guests as they are very good judges of character(!) We ask for proof of vaccinations, vet and emergency contact info, and we have a brief profile we like to fill out at the initial Meet and Greet on the basics - daily routine, favorite games, anything funky we should know about, etc. We also ask that male dogs be neutered. Thanks to DogVacay we have developed quite a following of repeat visitors. We tend to book out a month or more in advance, sometimes longer for popular holidays. We do our best to keep our calendar up to date. Daycare and single night stays are not generally a great fit for us. Longer stays work best for us. A two night minimum stay is ideal for new visitors.
