Pet care experience
My fiancé, Alex, and I are dog lovers (and cat owners). We are happy to host cat-friendly dogs at our house or check in on cats. We live in DC and work during the week, so weekends are probably the best for us to devote our full attention to your dogs but we can make weekdays work too with flexible work schedules. We have a two floor rowhouse with a small fenced backyard so there will be plenty of space for your pet to enjoy while he or she stays with us. We don't have a car, but we have zipcar, enterprise and car2go memberships, so we will always be able to get a car in the case of an emergency. I want to give Genna and Alex a big shout out for the wonderful job they did dogsitting my Thai street dog while I was away travelling. They watched Puffin twice - once for a weekend and once for a two-week period while I was out of the country for work. They were always very responsive and sent lots of messages and pictures while I was away - which really put me at ease. They have a lovely home and Puffin even made a new friend with their cat. If you're looking for a safe, spacious option for a a medium-length stay or even a day or two, Genna and Alex are an excellent choice. Even though Puffin was excited to see me when I get home, she ran back to say goodbye to her great hosts. A hearty five stars.
Genna was really great with Max. Even though he only stayed one night, she sent me multiple updates about all the games they were playing and lots of photos! highly recommended!
Hershey is three year old cockapoo who is very shy and anxious,. He spent last weekend IN the wonderful care of Genna and Alex in Washington, DC. They were able to quickly work their way Into Hershey's heart and banish his initial fear. They communicated with me, letting me know all was well. Genna and Alex were the perfect fit for Hershey.
Genna and Alex were great with our dog. We would highly recommend them to all Rover-ers!!

We require that the dogs we sit for are house-trained and that they are not aggressive toward cats, since we have two cats of our own. Otherwise, dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome.
A typical day
Here's where we'll take our walks We live in the quiet neighborhood of Ledroit Park and can walk dogs around the neighborhood and up around the McMillan Reservoir for a longer trip. We also live two blocks away from the Ledroit Park dog park, so we are happy to take dogs there as well. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Dogs can sleep anywhere in the house, including the floor, bed, futon or couch. Time I'll spend with your dog It depends on the day and the needs of the dog. We can make our work schedules a little bit more flexible to make sure we spend plenty of time with the dogs we're sitting during the week. On weekends, dogs will have the full attention of at least one of us at all times. We really like to be active with dogs, so we can take them to a dog park, out for a hike or even for a run, with the owner's approval.

Why I love dog sitting We have always been dog lovers. Alex grew up with a string of family dogs that he adored and a collection of cats. Although Genna never had pets growing up (due to apartment living and a parent with allergies), she has always enjoyed sitting for friends and spending time with animals at every opportunity. Genna also worked at an environmental and wildlife sanctuary during graduate school, where she cared for all types of creatures.
