Pet care experience
I’ve worked professionally with dogs and cats for 2 years in a veterinary setting, alongside this I own 2 cats who are called Bug and Bean. I had a West Highland White Terrier growing up who was a beautiful little boy but sadly passed away at the start of COVID-19. Alongside an animal management course I completed, I also worked in a rescue centre, looking after various breeds of dogs and cats. Walking, feeding, grooming and playing with the animals, to give them enrichment throughout their stay in the kennels/cattery.

Safety, trust & environment
Keeping pets safe inside and outside the clients property is vital, to ensure that the pet is out of harms way and able to get the most enjoyment possible of the visit/walk. It is important to discuss boundaries with the client between pet and human to make sure everyone is happy at all times.
Information Gemma L. would like to know about your pet
Information which will be required prior to visiting/walking would be if the pet has any medication which needs to be administered. How they are fed (the quantity of food, and whether this is in a kong/bowl). Their registered veterinary practice in the unlikely event this is needed for emergency treatment. If the dog is affected by other dogs on walks or get stressed with traffic. Lastly but not least! If they have a favourite toy to play with.
A typical day
Depending on the dogs needs, this will depend on the activity carried out. Not one pet is the same, a high energy dog will require much physical and mental stimulation (playing, long walks, training). A senior dog may require less physical activity but will need mental stimulation (through cuddles, short walks and just being there with the pet). Each pet has their own specifications and I can adhere to their requirements.

Availability
My hours of work vary each week, this allows me to have time to complete other activities. I’d like to fill this extra time by helping out wherever I can to walk/pet sit others pets, helping out other pet lovers so they have peace of mind that their pets are being looked after when they are not able to throughout the day.
