I have had at least one dog in my household since I was 15 years old. I used to puppy sit instead of babysit on the weekends because I've always thought that dogs were more fun to sit than babies. Through the years we have found dogs, rescued dogs, had dogs given to us, or adopted dogs whose parents were moving away. When we moved, we would take the entire family, including our pets, to our next home. That was just a no-brainer. Right now I have an aging Cocker Spaniel named Zero whom I've had since he was a year old. He was a dog that was surrendered by his family because they didn't have any time for him. We could tell he had never been trained. The first night we had him we found he had jumped into the dinner table and was busy eating from our plates. Thirteen years later he still has a nose for food, but he would never jump back on the table. Through the years, I became the potty training expert. Every 15 minutes or so for 3-4 days would find me and our newest puppy making a trip around the property using the words "outside," "pee pee," and "good boy." It always worked. It took a bit longer to train my kids!
