Pet care experience

I respect how you have trained your dog and I will continue to reinforce the methods that you use. Play dates and walks aren’t an excuse for training expectations to go out the window. I grew up with a dog, Baxter, who is now 14 years old - an ol’ boy. I have fostered dogs for a local rescue and have enjoyed taking care of puppies and adolescent dogs. I have learned that each dog is so unique (just like us humans!) and has different needs. I always treat each dog like it’s my own pet and focus on continuing its training and truly getting to know the dog — their likes, dislikes, and favorite treats. Time with a “new” person can be anxiety provoking for dogs, but with proper introductions the experience can be positive for both the human and dog. I would love to meet you and your dog and see if we would be a good match!

Safety, trust & environment

I’m very familiar with crate training and am more than happy to work on that with your pup. Every dog is different — I want to ensure that I have a good understanding of your dog so that I can keep him/her safe. What signs to they show when they’re fearful? Do they bark when meeting new people? Do loud noises frighten them? I know how nerve-wracking it can be to leave your pet with a new person, so I am adamant about communicating with you while I’m with your pet — pictures, videos, texts!

Information Garlande B. would like to know about your pet

I want to know about your dog! If I have learned anything in my time as a dog foster it’s that every dog is so different and is driven by different things. Does your dog prefer praise or treats? Do they have any certain needs? Anything that I can do that will keep your mind at ease? Let me know! I have a list of questions that I ask before spending time with any dog. This ensures that the visit is as successful as it can be and that your dog and I feel comfortable.

A typical day

We have a 1 year old Vizsla puppy, Ruby, who has a lot of energy but loves playing with other dogs. I love spending time outdoors with dogs. I think it’s important to provide activities that stimulate the dog both physically (walks, running in the yard, playing fetch) and mentally (searching for treats, training, agility). I always have fun creating homemade obstacle courses for the dogs. They love the challenge and it’s a great way to build trust (and tire them out!)
