I like to know a pet’s temperament and the way in which your animals prefer for things to be done and also their people. Understanding a routine or lack thereof will help me better transition your pet to being in my care. I understand that some pets will act differently with me as a stranger than they will with their owners and I respect their autonomy and hope to become a familiar person to them with the help of their owners. For dogs specifically I think it is important to meet in person with their people before I am to take over care of them without owners present. Ahead of time understanding feeding regiments, exercise, and general care is important to me. Creating for a good introduction is key with all pets and people alike!

I enjoy spending my time with the animals in my care and have found that animals are quick to come around to me and I am quite persistent in making them comfortable with my presence. Once your pet is comfortable with me in their space I like to figure out how they prefer interactions to go and work towards becoming a friendly face. Instigating play is a good way of figuring out their temperament and their comfort levels. Understanding particular breed traits is important in understanding a dog and of course all dogs will enjoy different things. I’ve worked with dogs in a variety of capacities and depending on the dog their activities will vary greatly- teaching old dogs new tricks, introducing nose work, and creating new ways of play are all things I have introduced to the dogs in my own life. I think it is important to understand our pets’ body language and move forward from that point in the activities we engage in!
