Puppy Paradise in an Urban Jungle
Pet care experience
Hi Friends!! My name is Fazeela and I live in a cozy one-bedroom apartment with my husband, Brett, and our pack of two Chow Chows named Tesla and Tiberius. Tesla, a female, is two years old and Tiberius, a male, is one year old. They are so friendly and have so much fun that we call them the TnT Party Factory!! To be quite honest, they are more popular than we are in our neighborhood. We live in Lefferts Garden, directly across the street from Prospect Park. It is a quiet escape within the city with access to untouched nature. Prospect Park is a dog’s paradise with off-leash hours in three areas, the Nethermead, Longmeadow and Peninsula. These open-spaces allow dogs to enjoy themselves without the cramped and dirty conditions of the dog parks we’ve been to around the city. There's even a place for dogs to swim: the Long Meadow Dog Beach at the Pools. There is a vibrant community of dog owners that frequent the park. The people you meet here treat your dog as their own. Any problems, a lost dog for example, we all come together to help out. For Tesla & Tiberius a typical day begins at 7:30am with morning cuddles. Next the dogs go on a 45-minute walk around the Lefrak Center and Lakeside section of the park. Breakfast is served upon return to the Lair. Most days they get a mix of Natural Balance brand wet and dry food but sometimes the pups get a treat of homemade dogfood. After eating each dog gets a 20-minute grooming session. Their second walk of the day occurs anytime between 5:30-6:30pm. During this walk we take the dogs to an off-leash meet up in the Nethermead. Even though these hours aren't officially "off-leash" the parks dept. and police allow this group to meet-up daily. We haven't had a single problem in the two years we have been bringing Tesla there. There are usually 30-35 dogs heading in and out from 5:00 to 7:30pm. Dinner is served upon returning to the apt. Tesla and Tiberius' last walk occurs after 11pm and lasts approx. 10-20 minutes. If necessary the dogs get another 20 minute grooming session before bed. Brett and I are both students, volunteers and work part time. Brett is a freelance writer and occasionally serves at No. 7 sub in Dumbo. He is pursuing a M.S. degree in Library Science at Queens College. He is currently training our youngest dog to be a licensed therapy dog at local children and VA medical centers. I am currently earning a M.A. degree in Psychology with a focus on Animal Behaviour and plan to earn a Ph.d. in the immediate future. I work as a Research Analyst in Flat Iron and run a small study at City College investigating the effects of electronic cigarettes on learning and memory. I know it sounds like a crazy schedule, but the best part is that our dogs are not left at home for more than 4 to 6 hours a day. We tend to be homebodies on the weekend. We just love our neighborhood so much. On the weekends the first walk of the day usually lasts about 1-2 hours. We take the time to explore new trails, and allow the dogs to take a quick dip in the dog beach. We love giving Tesla and Tiberius new experiences so one weekend a month we do something for them. Trips have included fishing, camping, going to the beach, hiking and going bat detecting. They really are the most country city dogs I know. Brett and I make all of our dog treats. We make our own jerky, crisps, cookies, biscuits, meatballs, bars, and even frozen yogurt for our pups. We try to use ingredients from the farmers market and use a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. With your permission, we will always have treats made available for your pup and adhere to any dietary restrictions you may have. If you chose to stay with us, I want to assure you that your pup will be treated as one of our own. Brett and I have been dog owners for over 20 years and possess an array of skills to make the separation from your pet bearable and even pleasant. Our youngest puppy broke his leg this of summer. As a result, we have experience dealing with emergency situations as they may arise, advocating for and providing the necessary rehabilitation for an injured or ill pet. We are very dedicated to caring for our pets and hope you can see your pup will be in great hands. We will always be available to chat and will send updates daily or at your request. FYI: We have an orthopedic bed, travel crate, and collapsible soft crate with fleece interior available for use. We can separate dogs if/when necessary and usually allow our dogs daily access to all rooms in the Apt. with the exception of our bedroom.

Thanks again!
My dog was very well taken care of!
I made contact on relatively short notice due a short deadline for a trip and my other walker being unavailable. They got back to me quickly and came to meet me and my dog. My dog is generally well behaved, but has a couple triggers due to some abuse. I always worry when I travel without him. Fazeela and her partner did a great job handling him...and I had a great trip thanks to their taking care of him. I would use them again.
Lou always loves her time with your family! She came home happy and totally tuckered out, which is just what we hoped for. Also, thanks for the homemade treats, she loves them!
