About a year ago I stepped onto an elevator after finishing up a walk with a client. On the next floor I was joined by an elderly golden retriever and his owner. The dog immediately pulled my way and stuck his nose into the back of my knee. Each time his owner tried to gently pull him away, he would resume the position and stare up at me. Exasperated, his owner said to me, "I'm so sorry, he doesn't normally do this." I laughed and said, "It's okay, I'm a dog walker so this happens a lot." The man said, "He doesn't do this with all the dog walkers," to which I replied, "Of course not, only the good ones." And that's how I met another fabulous client! This is a silly story, but I hope it demonstrates that not only do I love dogs, but they seem to like me okay, as well! Inspired by the relationship I have with my own dog, Oliver, I began walking dogs professionally three years ago and I've met some incredible furry friends and their human companions along the way. I can't promise that your dog will fall in love with me the way my buddy Rusty did, but I can promise you that the two of us will form a relationship based on mutual trust and respect, not fear or intimidation. I have a solid foundation in positive-reinforcement so not only will your dog get the exercise they need, but they'll enjoy doing it. Some dogs need an energetic walk, while other enjoy the ol' sniff-and-stroll so I vary my approach with every dog, striving to meet their individual needs. I love each little guy like my own little guy, and I look forward to caring for yours!
