Availability

Before moving forward with any service request, I encourage clients to check my Rover calendar for availability. I am typically booked about 2-4 months out, so it’s best to submit your request well in advance of your preferred date range. Despite keeping my Rover calendar regularly updated, pending requests are not reflected, so open dates may have a waitlist. Please note that my house sitting service (which refers to overnight sitting in a client’s home) is subject to the following terms. ~ My house sitting hours are typically 5pm-9am and cover overnight care only. On weekdays, I have ongoing commitments to other clients during the day. However, I have flexible hours, so you can book additional daytime services if midday visits are needed. Clients who book house sitting will be able to add daytime services at a discounted rate for the duration of my stays. ~ My daytime service hours (for other clients’ dog walks and drop-in visits) are usually 9am-5pm. If you choose to book overnight care only (and forego daytime services), I may be away from your home during the day for periods that range from 6-8 hours. ~ My listed rate applies to locations in my primary service area (greater Portland/Vancouver) within a commute radius of 10 miles (approximately 20-min travel time, depending on traffic). For locations further away, a $25 travel fee will be charged for the initial consultation. Additional travel fees may apply to your booking depending on the commute time/distance and required number of trips.

Prior to any first booking with new clients, I offer a 30-min consultation (referred to as a Meet & Greet on Rover’s platform) to make introductions with you and your non-human family members. This in-person meeting allows everyone to determine if we’re a good fit for each other. Our consultation lets me familiarize myself with your particular needs, however all pet care instructions must be detailed in writing prior to booking an overnight stay. Rover’s pet profiles are a good place to share that info. Handwritten or printed instructions set out for me to review when I arrive are helpful as well. Please be thorough and specific so I know how to provide the best care that I can! While in your home, I provide other basic services in addition to pet care. These include bringing in mail and packages, watering indoor plants, setting out waste bins on pick-up days, etc. No extra fees for those services, it’s all included! In lieu of a comprehensive list of what’s covered, feel free to ask questions. Outdoor yard care (such as watering, snow shoveling, refilling bird feeders, etc) is negotiable depending on the required time commitment. I am fully vaccinated/boosted for COVID and will gladly wear a face mask upon request for any in-person meeting. Having several immune-compromised family members, I fully understand that those at higher risk for complications from COVID exposure appreciate the extra precautions that keep them safe.

Information Erin F. would like to know about your pet

I appreciate any information you can provide regarding your pet’s temperament, routines, house rules, typical behaviors, favorite activities/toys, walking routes, approved outings, quirks, anxieties, bad habits to discourage, “ruh-rohs,” etc.

A typical day

I provide leashed walks primarily within the neighborhoods where I’m booked, but will gladly take your dog on a secure car ride (with seat belts and barriers) to a favorite park or open space. For clients who don’t have a fenced yard of their own, I maintain an ongoing membership with Sniffspot — a service that matches vetted private property owners with pet parents/sitters to offer access to their fully fenced and secured outdoor spaces. This service is ideal for dogs who do best in a private setting during their off-leash experience, away from other human or animal presence. My Sniffspot membership allows me to reserve listed properties for 30-60 minute time slots at a discounted rate. If you have your own fenced yard, I’ll make sure outside playtime is a priority, including fetch, chase, and agility skills...whatever doggie likes!

Pet care experience

I started pet sitting for friends and neighbors while in college and have been welcoming referrals ever since. From 2013 to 2021, I provided routine pet care for housemates who were either frequently traveling or working graveyard shifts. In those living arrangements, I was the primary sitter/walker of a large, energetic Australian Shepherd and an elderly, disabled Labrador who needed special care and attention to detail with her diet and medication. I adore these pups like they’re my own! In addition to my experience with in-home pet care, I staffed dog-friendly farmers markets in Seattle for over a decade, where I encountered dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Those encounters allowed me opportunities to practice gentle but effective means of resolving canine conflicts. Our crowded human world can be an overstimulating place for our four-legged friends. I moved to the Portland area to be closer to family and am eager to grow my business with new clients. Ask me about referral discounts. To keep my services affordable for clients with multiple pets, I offer discounts when caring for additional pets within the same household. Besides dogs and cats, I have cared for birds, fish, rabbits, rodents, and reptiles. Special requests are welcome!

Erin was wonderful with our cats! She even got our shy Maus to warm up to her! Great photos and communication. House was today and she even washed the sheets. Have already booked her for our next trip.
