Navy Veteran and Animal Lover

Pet care experience

I am a US Navy veteran at home full-time during the week. I have had family pets since I was six months old and have taken care of my pets since I adopted a cat in college. I currently have one cat and one dog in my home, whom I adore. I have a lifetime of experience in handling cats and dogs, as well as pet mice, rabbits, hamsters, and fish. My extended family trusts me to dog and cat sit when needed because they know I will dedicate myself to caring for their pets. I treat all animals as if they are my own. I offer optional crate-free boarding for dogs who are safe, non-destructive, and potty-trained when I am not home and at night.

I feel good about leaving my baby with Erica. I know he’ll get the extra attention he needs being a senior dog.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a fenced-in yard, baby gates inside the home, and access to crates if needed or requested for safety. I pride myself on offering the option for uncrated dogs, but I own XS, medium, and large crates and a large RuffLand crate if owners request their use or if there is a significant danger risk. Your baby’s safety and health are my top priority. I offer two feeding times per day at 7 am and 5 pm. Food is never left out for grazing, which can cause severe conflicts. Pets are fed in separate areas of the house, and if there is ever an issue of resource hoarding, I remove the hoarded objects from the dog-accessible rooms. I provide potty breaks at two to four-hour intervals, and we enjoy several long play breaks in the backyard daily. If dogs have personality conflicts or territorial issues, they have separate potty breaks and playtime as necessary.

Information Erica D. would like to know about your pet

Please read before arriving for boarding: 1) I need to know about medications and allergies. 2) Please put food in a storage container or Tupperware, not a Ziploc bag. Bags are hard to scoop out of. However, pre-portioned individual baggies are okay. 3) Please provide the measuring scoop you use and let me know how much and how often. 4) You only need to bring dog bowls if it's a special slow feeder. I feed at 7 am and 5 pm but can incorporate additional times. I can not leave food down all day for safety concerns. 5) Please do not bring toys unless you're okay with them possibly getting destroyed. 6) Favorite treats are okay but they will get shared. 7) I have multiple dog beds, but you can bring theirs from home. 8) I need to know their usual sleeping arrangement. I can only sometimes accommodate dogs used to sleeping in their owner's beds. It all depends on the dog's size and how they interact with my cat. 9) I only crate dogs at the owner's request, if they are destructive when unsupervised or not house-trained. Please let me know if they need to be crated when I am not home or at night. I have XS, medium, and large wire crates and a large RuffLand crate, but if they need a different size or type, you will need to bring it. 10) I respect that some owners provide rawhide treats or animal bones at their homes; however, if rawhide or bones are brought, I will not dispense them to any dogs as rawhide is bad for digestion and animal bones pose a broken-tooth risk.

A typical day

I’m always looking for new ways to stimulate pets in my care, both physically and mentally. I am constantly searching for new mental activities like treat puzzles and unique toys and buying new toys in bulk online in between boarders. I also have a fully fenced-in yard for constant outdoor stimulation. A typical day starts at 7 am for the morning potty break. I dispense morning medications, breakfast, and reward treats for good behavior. Animals are fed and monitored in separate areas of the house during feeding times. Our second potty break is soon after breakfast, and then we engage in intervals of outdoor playtime, indoor toy play, and general roughhousing. At 5 pm, I dispense dinner; at the times instructed, I dispense any medications (oral and injectable). I can give them more meals as requested throughout the day.
