Kind, calm dog lover offering pet care in Tamworth

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Emma, and I offer dog walks, drop-in visits, vet visits, cuddles, and pet-sitting services in Tamworth and the surrounding area. Growing up with many different family and friends' dogs, I experienced the unconditional love they give us, and I am the go-to family carer/sitter. After volunteering at a dog shelter in Bulgaria for two months last year, I realised I wanted to dedicate myself to dog and animal care full-time. Caring for dogs with different, sometimes traumatic backgrounds, I really enjoy getting to know their personalities, and how to best care for them based on their temperaments and needs. Most of all, I love seeing how the right care and love can transform even the most nervous dog - those cuddles are the best! I have varied experience caring for different breeds and mixes, from Jack Russells, Border Terriers, Staffys, German Shepherds, Kengals and cross-breeds. Our own fur baby, Jess, is a beautiful, caring, and super smart rescue herself, and we think she is a Pointer-mix. Although I love large dogs, for me, it is their personality and connection with me that wins me over, rather than breed or size. I have some experience with both puppies and seniors, and those with serious health conditions and I can support your care routine and vet visits.

It was lovely to have an update every day on our girls during their walk . Thank you Emma for taking good care of them and providing the care they need

Emma has looked after both of my dogs. Firstly Henri, who Emma looked after in her later years (up to the age of 15). Henri had several health conditions and Emma was reliable and consistent but most importantly patient and caring when Henri was in her care. Secondly Mabel, who has known Emma all her life, Emma was equally as patient, and consistent but also energetic dealing with lovely young dog. She listened to how I managed Mabel’s training and always made sure she followed the same rules, which included Mabel having lots of playtime and cuddles. I would highly recommend Emma to anyone looking for a calm, respectful and fun pet caregiver.

Emma was brilliant whilst looking after my elderly girl. She has a specific food regime that Emma followed perfectly. And she also took her on beautiful daily walks. She built an amazing bond with my dog and remained professional throughout. I would only trust her with my pooch now and she always loves going back!

Safety, trust & environment

DBS checked, full driving license, and I have a car for more adventurous walks or vet visits. The car has dog-safe safety belts, and I ask the owner to provide a harness or their own crate. Having their own collar or harness and muzzle (if needed) is essential, and of course their favourite toys and games. I also have some of my own equipment to use at no extra cost such as toys, ball throwers, and extra-long rope leads to allow as much exercise, roaming, sniffing and running as possible whilst remaining safely on lead. I will always support training goals – positive reinforcement is my personal preference. Consistency is fundamental, so I will do my best to follow your dog's training plan. Happy to put on and use a muzzle, as long your dog is accustomed. I can help with muzzle training if discussed and agreed. I do not use corrective equipment like pinch collars or e-collars.

Information Emma Louise B. would like to know about your pet

You know your dog best! I’ll have lots of questions about their likes, dislikes, routine, health issues, medication, favourite walking spots, special requirements, and of course, when (and if) they most enjoy cuddles. Ideally, your pets can be left alone at home for up to 2hrs when pet-sitting for multiple days. If not, then let me know so I can try and accommodate their needs. With nervous, reactive dogs, or those with other behavioural “quirks”, the meet and greet will be key. We can discuss their preferences, triggers, and importantly, see whether we hit it off with each other.

A typical day

Walks walks walks! Outdoor spaces to sniff, explore, and get lots of exercise are essential. I love getting my wellies on for an adventure walk, and moving to Tamworth 10 years ago, I was surprised by all the green spaces. I have discovered and explored these mostly with four-legged friends, even close to the city center where I live, the castle grounds and Borrowpit Lake near the Snowdome are on the doorstep. Kingsbury Park, Hopwas Woods, and a walk along the Tame River are some other favourites. Games like playing fetch or tuggy can make the most of shorter visits. Short training exercises like focus training and even muzzle training can be fun, and provide some mental stimulation in addition to lots of walks when pet sitting. Brain breaks are also really important to enable dogs to relax and settle when they need to. After a visit, I will always leave your dog settled, and when pet sitting, create a quiet calm environment so they can rest, at the times they are used to.
