Emily L.
Foster Dog Carer, Ex-zookeeper, Zoologist
Pet care experience
I'm a zoologist doing my PhD and love getting outside with an animal companion. I sometimes foster rescue dogs but when I'm not doing that I still love to have them in my life. I have experience caring for my own reactive dogs that needed to be walked away from people or in a muzzle, as well as shy / not lead trained dogs in rescue. I am patient and like to go at a dog's pace when it comes to training or exercising, making sure they get what they need without pushing them too far too fast. As a past zookeeper, I'm good at following instructions to ensure animals get consistent care with what other people are providing, so when I drop-in you can feel assured I will follow all your instructions. I am also happy to discuss caring for other animals that might need dropping in on. I have lived with cats and volunteered at rescue services looking after them. I have also been caring for pets my whole life, including species like mice, hamsters, gerbils, fish, rabbits, chickens, snakes, lizards and horses. Please get in touch if you want to know anything more about me to decide whether I am right for you. I look forward to hearing from you!
Reviews
Emily is a very intelligent, trustworthy and competent individual. She has an immense love of all animals and is always concerned with their welfare, putting their needs and wellbeing before her own. She has owned and looked after many different animals and has trained and looked after the family dogs for many years. She has worked voluntarily in a boarding/breeding kennels and looked after neighbours and friends dogs. She is enthusiastic and very knowledgable. She is physically fit and loves to be outdoors exploring the natural world. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone needing a friend for their dog.
About Emily L.
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I care for pets with the love as if they are my own, but following an owner's instructions. I believe in maintaining boundaries for an animal in training, but not in harsh discipline.
Information Emily L. would like to know about your pet
I need to know your pet's history with illness and aggression, so I know how to handle them and anything they might be sensitive about. The most important thing to me is that both myself and the pet are safe.
A typical day
I love to offer enriching walks, games in the house, various types of food for pets to investigate, grooming long fur and lots of love. I'm happy to cater activities around what owners want, and may suggest some that I've had success with in the past.
Services

Availability
I mostly set my own schedule so am able to be flexible around an owner's needs. I don't usually need to be out of my house for more than four hours so can be in for dogs at my place with separation anxiety.
