Professional Trainer and Dog Lover

Pet care experience

I am a dog trainer in Berthoud, CO. I spent 5 years working in dog daycares, dog sitting, and fostering dogs during my undergraduate education before graduating with a B.S. in ecology, evolution, and animal behavior. I also spent a year working for Nestle Purina with animal behavior research. I have experience with aggression, reactivity, separation anxiety, deaf dogs, blind dogs, trauma cases, puppy mill dogs, hoarding cases, resource guarding, barrier aggression, and high prey drive. My training experience includes puppy behavior shaping, on leash obedience, off leash obedience, behavior modification, crate training, potty training, place work, ecollar work, pre-service work, and behavioral rehabilitation.

Emily agreed to watch our pup at the last minute. She had a bit of a cough so she couldn’t go to the place we’d planned to board her. Our pup was anxious about being somewhere she’d never been. Emily handled puppy diarrhea with grace, concern, and professionalism. She clearly loves dogs and is very knowledgeable. I’d highly recommend her!

Emily is a gem, from the moment we finished our meet and greet I knew that my dog Jasper would be in good hands. I love that Emily is also a dog trainer and she practiced a couple of commands with Jasper while he was staying with her. Emily was great at checking in and was flexible with changing our pick up time. I highly recommend Emily to take care of your pet! Thanks again Emily!

Emily was incredibly responsive to my texts and requests for updates. This was my first time away from my pup so naturally was nervous, but her professionalism, love for pups, and experience made it all go smoothly. Thank you!!

Safety, trust & environment

Dogs that stay with me will be provided with the best care possible. To ensure health and safety, poop is picked up immediately every time. Crates are sanitized every time they are done being used. A log is kept of everything your dog does, and fecal quality is monitored closely. Fresh water is always available, and the only food provided to your dog is the food you've approved. I prefer to give regular Pupdates via text with behavior reports every few days, but will call or text immediately if there is anything concerning. If you want to do a daily check in, I am happy to provide a daily video chat, phone call, or text update with a picture for an additional $5/day. If you or someone you trust would like to physically come and check in on your dog, I would be happy to schedule a 1 hour check in for $30/hour.

Information Emily J. would like to know about your pet

Does your dog have any history of aggression towards people, and is there a bite history? Does your dog have any history of aggression towards dogs or other animals, and is there a bite history? Does your dog have any behavioral issues? Does your dog have any medical issues or conditions? What vaccines/preventatives is your dog up to date on? What does your dog's at home routine look like? All dogs must be crate trained and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Meet and greets are required for dogs with behavior issues.

A typical day

They will sleep overnight in a crate (plastic or steel, never a wire crate unless specifically requested), and first outs are at 6am. Breakfast will be in the crate or hand fed, and then we will have an hour or so before I head to work for the day. When I leave the apartment for work, the dog will be securely crated in the office which is kept between 72-78 degrees. I have a nanny cam set up to watch the crates so I am able to check in while I am away. Dinner is usually fed between 4-6pm, and the evening is spent playing or snuggling up and watching TV. Last outs are between 10-11pm before bed time. Enrichment activities are always provided for dogs in my care, whether it's a Kong with peanut butter, fetch in the yard on a long line, or a walk around the neighborhood. I often find the dogs that stay with me leave with a few basic obedience skills as well- if I am not told otherwise, I won't be able to help myself from forming some good habits!
