Pet care experience
Hi there! My name is Emily. I recently relocated to Leonardtown, Maryland to be closer to family. I have four dogs (three Labrador Retrievers and one Boxer) and two cats (a Calico and a Brown Tabby) of my own, but I love making time for creatures of all shapes and sizes! I have experience caring for just about every type of domesticated animal you can think of, and if I haven't done it before, I'm confident I can learn how! UPDATE (8/26/17): Currently on hiatus due to a recently accepted position working for K-9 Divine. Not accepting new Rover clients at this time. Apologies for any inconvenience! ________________________________________BACKGROUND________________________________________ I've wanted to make a career out of working with animals since I can remember. Growing up (in Texas), my family always had a dog or two around, and I dreamed of being a breeder or trainer. During high school and my first year of college, I worked as a teacher's assistant for summer zoo camp classes at the Fort Worth Zoo to fulfill my animal interests. I started college at Texas A&M University on the route to vet school but quickly realized medicine was not for me, so I dropped out to try other things. In 2011 I worked as a kennel technician, and in 2012, I started offering my own pet sitting and training services under the name "InterACT" (Inter-species Adaptable Communication Techniques). I went back to the local (Blinn) Community College and earned my Associate's degree in Psychology in 2015. From 2015 until now... - I shadowed and apprenticed under multiple dog trainers - I earned the title of CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed) through the CCPDT (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers) - I built up my own successful pet sitting service in the Bryan-College Station, TX area - I gave three public presentations at A&M on canine body language, behavior, and training - I wrote monthly e-newsletter articles for Long Way Home animal rescue in Bryan, TX And in 2016, I re-enrolled at Texas A&M University and graduated (August 2017) with my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology. I recently relocated to Leonardtown, Maryland to be closer to family.
Reviews
I've known Emily for about 7 years, and have worked with her at a zoo, boarding kennel, and with petsitting. She is a fantastic animal care specialist, and will treat your pets like hers. She spends as much time as possible enriching her own dogs lives with park trips, training, and socializing. Her personal goals are to assist owners with training and behavioral issues with their dogs, so you know they are in excellent hands.
