Pet care experience
My animal experience started at home with cats, dogs, fish & small rodents. I started farm camp in middle school & became a camp counselor at the same farm once I was old enough. Those were pivotal moments for me. Working with 30+ kids & caring for a broad range of farm animals (with other farm staff, of course) was exciting, challenging, & a good fit for me. Chickens, pigs, cats, dogs, goats, donkeys, ducks, and rabbits were some of the species on the farm. Those experiences inspired me to study animal science in college. In those 4 years I interned at rescue zoos & took a course in domestic & wildlife care in Belize. Now, out of college & continuing to collect experiences, I am working/living on a farm with chickens, sheep, ducks, pigs, goats, & cats. The garden has been another huge focus & exciting learning point this year. Earlier this year, 2019, I was asked to care for my friend’s new dog while she was at work. A blue nose pit bull with a history of abuse. The first day I met her she was very nervous, scared to trust, & it took an hour for her to crawl down the stairs. Her name is Petal, & today she is the most exuberant, loving, gentle pup, who plays with other dogs, explores, & fearlessly runs up & down the stairs. Getting to know & care for Petal over several months while watching her transform into her true self, a self without fear, is one of the main reasons I am signing up for Rover. It was a joy to go on hiking adventures & walks with her, where I learned about different dog parks and hiking spots close to where I live. As my interests expand on the farm, my heart still rests with a compassion for animal care. I enjoy getting to know individual animals, building an environment of love & trust, & helping as I can.

Emily has been taking care of my dogs when I go out of town for years and I wouldn't trust anyone more. She also comes to walk them when I'm in a pinch. She is responsible and a joy to know- I'm lucky to have someone like her to count on. I would recommend Emily as a dog caregiver because she has an understanding of animals that is given to few people, something that cannot be taught. Emily is compassionate, loving, and patient with them. Any owner can trust that their dogs will be treated exceptionally well when they are with her!
Emily helped take care of my rescue dog shortly after she was adopted by spending time with her every day while I was at work, walking her and feeding her. She required extra time and patience as she had been very badly treated and would not initially leave the house willingly. Emily did a marvelous job, winning her trust and affection, taking her on daily "adventures" to play with other dogs and to places where she could run and play freely. Emily also stayed overnight with her when I had a business trip. I can't speak highly enough of Emily! She is a true dog lover who is patient and gentle and loves to get outside and walk and play with dogs. She is also highly trustworthy!
Emily is such a caring and compassionate individual. I trust her immensely with my pit-mix, Daga. Emily has taken care of Daga plenty of times and Daga loves her time with Auntie Emily. I've always received such hilarious photos to ease my anxiety of being away from my baby! Having a pitbull is a tough responsibility but Emily understands dog behavior and safety. She is incredibly patient with my dog's finicky habits and reassures that Daga stays safe during any public outing. I highly recommend Emily for any dog owner looking for a happy loving Auntie to take care of their furry loved one!
Emily loves animals. I would not trust my dog, or any animal, with many people, but I would and do trust Emily 100%. She will treat your pet as if it were her own; I am certain of this, as I have seen her both care for my own animals, and for animals she was sitting/walking. I highly recommend Emily.
