Dog and Cat Whisperer

Pet care experience

Animals warm up to me instantly and love the personal attention I give them. I’ve watched a range of cats—one who was notorious for being shy due to trauma and he became my best cat friend on day one, as well as sassy cats, cats that act like affectionate dogs, and an older cat recovering from a brain surgery who I had to give daily medicine and change in and out of onesies so she wouldn't reopen a scar. I’ve watched dogs small to big and young to old (4 months old to rapidly declining). I’m with a small dog, Lilly, as I write this. She’s sitting against my lap, and is my dog soulmate. I’ve taken her to my nephew’s soccer practices and have taken her with me while I run errands (shopping, going to the post office, picking up takeout). I’ve also driven her to different parks to go walking. I love all the pets that I’m blessed to spend time with. I always leave them feeling sad because I miss them after bonding with them. This is my seventh time watching Lilly, and she welcomes me back with a wagging tail, an exposed belly, and cuddles each time I walk through the door.

Emelina is wonderful with my cat FuBatChu! She is always on time with her medications and makes sure she gets lots of attention. She also takes great care of my house while I'm away and sends me lots of photos and updates. I love seeing how happy and content FuBatChu is when I get home. I can not recommend Emelina enough!

I am so grateful to be able to write this testimonial for Emelina as she has so amazingly taken such care of our dogs over the past two decades! Emelina is truly an animal whisperer! There were times where our dogs Bella & Ehu would not want to leave and return with our family when it was time for Emelina to leave. Emelina cared for our dogs like they were her own. I have never seen a human have such genuine care and love for our dogs or any dogs for that matter as Emelina did. Each Christmas Emelina would buy gifts for our dogs. My family leaves town for over 10 days at a time and it was such a breath of fresh air to know that Emelina was with our dogs and also took care of our home. When we would return from our trip, our house would be nice and clean as well. Emelina would send pictures and videos of our dogs when we were away, per our request which we appreciated! If Emelina has an opening in her schedule when you need someone to love and care for your dog or ANY animal when you are away, I ensure you will want to book her and from there on always as well.

Emelina is an amazing dog sitter and truly a great person. Our regular dog sitter had to cancel just before we left on vacation, we reached out to Emelina last minute and she responded right away. She made herself available to come over that same day. She greeted our 3 fur babies right away with a friendly, caring presence. Emelina is a good listener, she took notes & asked thoughtful questions on how to best care for our dogs. While we were away she was a great communicator, she gave us regular updates and sent photos & videos day to day. She did a wonderful job caring for each of our dogs and truly went above & beyond. She was respectful in our home & loving and attentive to our dogs. We feel so lucky to have met Emelina and have the opportunity to get to know her. She is amazing, dependable and reliable. Thank you Emelina, we appreciate you!

Emelina was awesome. It was obvious that she truly cared about the well being of my pet. The dog was constantly involved in activity and exercise. Emelina sent copious amounts of videos and pictures. The dog must have been in heaven over the weekend that she provided dog/house sitting. Emelina went above and beyond by being in the mail, the newspaper. She also put out the garbage, something I was planning to do when I got home. Thanks Emelina!

I care for pets at my clients’ homes, and I take the lead on the parameters they set. I follow instructions and make sure any dietary needs are met. I walk dogs every day, and can bathe them at their home if need be given the proper supplies, or I can bathe them at the self-service station at Petco if the $18 cost is covered. I give dogs a lot of one-on-one petting attention and play fetch and tug-o-war with them. If brushes are provided, I love brushing them. I also give cats a lot of attention, and listen to their needs and body language on whether and when they want to play with toys, be pet, or cuddle. I love giving treats to both dogs and cats if they’re provided and okay with their diets. I also pick up mail, take out the garbage, and can water plants. I've taken dogs to the vet and administered medicine to both cats and dogs, from eye drops to oral medication. I've also cared for dogs who had to wear cones after surgeries or eye infections and dogs with broken legs. I've also cared for a cat after surgery who in addition to medication, needed her onesie changed and her belly checked to make sure she didn't reopen stitches. She was recovering from a brain injury, and I kept a log of her body twitches and was in constant contact with her vet and her human to ensure she wasn't experiencing any concerning symptoms. The biggest compliment I received was a family trusting me to care for their dog who was rapidly declining. He passed the week after they got back. There are a handful of dogs that I've cared for consistently over the years, and I've lost three of them. When they go, I grieve, too, along with their humans because they've become a part of my life and heart.

Information Emelina M. would like to know about your pet

Does your dog have any special dietary restrictions or a special diet? Does your dog take any medications? Does your dog like to play with toys? Does your dog like to be brushed? What’s your dog’s walking schedule? What is the number to your vet? Does your dog have any mental health needs? I’ve taken care of dogs who were in abusive environments before they were adopted. One of the dogs didn’t like being around tall men, for example, and another had anxiety and didn’t like being around new people. Is your dog comfortable around other dogs? Is your dog comfortable being around other people and little kids? Is your dog comfortable with car rides?

A typical day

A typical day depends on the dog’s needs & their walking schedule. A typical Monday through Friday morning starts with letting them out to use the bathroom, feeding them, and walking, petting, playing, and cuddling with them before I start work. I work from home, and I take breaks throughout the day to pet, brush, and/or play with them. When I’m finished with work, in addition to feeding them, I give them more attention in the form of petting, brushing, cuddling, playing, and/or walking them. If it’s soccer season for my nieces and nephews, I may take your dog to a park to watch their games in the evenings (if your dog is comfortable being around large groups of people or possibly encountering other dogs). If your dog likes to cuddle and you’re okay with them sleeping on the bed, we’ll sleep together. On the weekends, I follow their feeding & walking schedule, and I may take them for a longer walk if they’re able. I watch a lab on the west side of Petaluma, and on weekends, I’ve taken her for a 3+ mile walk to downtown Petaluma, around that area, and back. I watched a dog who was friendly with other dogs. I drove her to one of my sister’s houses, and I walked her to a nearby park with my nieces and nephew while they walked their dog. Both dogs ran around the park and played together. I’ve taken dogs who are comfortable around others to my parents’ house to visit during the day. And on some weekends, I also stay in with dog and give them lots of attention. If I’m watching a dog for a long time, or if their human asks, I’ll also wash them. Overall, a typical day depends on the dogs needs and what they and you are comfortable with.

It’s apart of my lifestyle. I work from home and am able to spend ample time with your fur baby. I’ve spent as little as an evening watching a dog to give her humans a date night to 3 weeks with a dog while her humans went on a road trip. I’m also available for drop-in visits. I did morning and evening drop in visits to feed and give attention to a cat. She had the soul of a dog and LOVED attention and being pet. I love walking dogs. If that’s all you need, I’m available for dog walks, too.
