I've had dogs all my life, from docile lab mixes to "challenging" breeds: darling Yuki the Akita, a family pet, and my and my husband's beloved pit bull mix Maggie, who died in January 2019. My husband and I don't currently have any pets. (He's also a lifelong dog owner and lover -- one of the things we bonded over.) We're still grieving Maggie and not yet ready for another dog of our own, but we miss pup company so much and want to open our lives and our hearts to new dog friends. We're both work-from-home writers in Atwater Village, so there's always someone at home. Our first-floor walk-up apartment has one bedroom (dogs welcome to share) and a fenced patio, which we share with Cooper, a tiny, friendly dog who lives downstairs. We spend our spare time hiking and walking the neighbourhood, and would love to have dogs to do that with again. I'm a writer for the American Kennel Club, so I spend a lot of my time thinking and writing about responsible dog ownership.
