Loving and Patient Dog Nanny Here
Pet care experience
I've been lucky enough to have lived with pets my whole life--2 dogs and 2 cats at minimum. I'm experienced with aggressive dogs, older pups, special needs doggos, and pre-potty-trained puppies. With dogs, as with people, I love to communicate! It's a joy for me to teach dogs tricks and commands, or reinforce ones that are known. Even if a pooch doesn't have a big "vocabulary," it's still such a gift to communicate through affection. Also, I really enjoy figuring out a dog's particular needs. Care varies from one individual to the next, and I love the discovery process! In my company your pup can: go on invigorating jaunts on the bike path, leave pee-mails in the park, learn basic commands such as "heel" and "lay down," learn trick commands such as "high five" and "play dead," and socialize with other dogs (with dog-parent approval). I'm notoriously a pup-arazzi (forgive me the pun). It's fun for me to keep pup parents up to date and to show that their needs are being attended to. I also make every effort to be consistent with the training particular to each dog (i.e. Some dogs respond to "heel," others to "by my side," etc). In addition to dogs, I've always had the company of cats! I like to say that all cats must have been writers in their past lives, because they love to sprawl across my books, papers, and laptop. It's a good reminder to take a cuddle break! I've also looked after tadpoles and fish, and I tell you what -- I can serve up a mean fish flake. In my fanny pack are: small organic training treats, cute patterned poo bags, and a collapsible water bowl. I would love to have a brief check-in/meet-and-greet with you beforehand so that I can plan routes based on your pup's needs and personality.
Reviews
Ellerie was great! Our pets greeted us on our return as if we never left. During the initial meet and greet, she seemed kind and sensitive to our sometimes sensitive pups. Our particular elder cat's needs were no problem for her. She provided updates throughout our time away which gave us peace of mind. Our pets were happy and our home clean upon our return home. We will definitely rebook with Ellerie in the future and happy to recommend her to others!
Ellerie did an amazing job taking care of our zoo of three (two elderly cats and one sensitive older dog). She gamely administered a complicated diet including medicine and sent lots of lovely updates. We came home to a house that had clearly been taken good care of. We'd love to have her back anytime.
Ellerie was fantastic. Whitney is not always an easy dog, but Ellerie easily handled her high energy, crafty with with no issues. Whitney was happy and tired when we returned after our 3 days away. Thank you Ellerie! Will definitely be reaching out in the future!
Ellerie is an incredible caretaker. She worked some serious wonders with my very difficult rescue George, showing the patience, love and good judgement necesary to win his trust and affection, succeeding where MANY dog sitters had failed before. Truly a gift, and I recommend her with gusto! Have no doubt that she will take excellent, over-and-above care of your pooch.

I come equipped with a fanny pack full of treats, which is usually a quick path to any pooch's heart. But I've met dogs who have preferred affection over milk bones, and other dogs who at first needed to be ignored before they could trust me. So, it depends. Before a meet and greet my most important asset is dialogue with an owner about their dog's particular needs and personality. I'm not breed picky, though I do have some favorites: Setters, Pit Bulls, and Coonhounds are my fave.
A typical day
One of the many wonderful things about Western Mass is the abundance of hiking trails! I have particular preference for Mount Tom and the bike path -- they're beautiful, have plenty of shade, and there are often a few dog friends there! That said, I also have a good sense of where there *aren't* often any dogs, in case your pup prefers strictly human company. I also love to run and would be happy to help get your high energy pooch tuckered out!
