Lifelong passion & quality care!

Pet care experience

I have been an avid animal lover since I could remember. I have always had dogs, cats, small animals and various exotics. I work in the medical field currently, and have always enjoyed working with animals in my free time. I have a 3-Year old border collie at the moment. I go for long hikes with him and am always touching up on his obedience training. I had my own pet sitting business when I was in highschool; now as an adult, I volunteer at the local animal shelter. It's been a lifelong passion of mine.

Ellen was a wonderful help to us with our two cats while we were out of town. She had great communication throughout, providing updates and details. Our furbabies were well taken care of and Ellen went above and beyond. Would highly recommend and will definitely hire Ellen again!

Ellen went above and beyond caring for my kitty. I think he was sad not to see her walk through the door once we came home! She is kind, very caring, and respectful of care instructions and preferences. She will always be my first choice! She has extensive knowledge of all animals and always puts her clients first.

Ellen has a lifetime of experience with animals, and truly cares about their wellbeing. She volunteers whenever she can at shelters. She has cared for and worked with dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, rats, horses, goats, bearded dragons, tortoises, etc. Ellen is well-read on the subject of animals and is an excellent dog trainer. She is approachable, honest, and punctual.

Safety, trust & environment

As mentioned, we have a young border collie at home. As per his breed, requires daily stimulus and activity. I take him for hikes and work with him via mental stimuli such as sensory work or mental games. Hikes or walks are 20-30 minutes minimum. I enjoy reading books by Victoria Stilwell and Patricia McConnell, as well as Temple Grandin. All well known animal behaviorists. I also listen to dog psychology and training podcasts, all positive reinforcement and conditioning. At home, we also have a pair of cats. I make sure these two are given toys and plenty of scratching posts/climbing trees. Cats need to be cats, just as dogs need to be dogs. Finally, we have a pair of common goldfish. While not as exciting as our furry family, they too require specific care. I make sure to do biweekly water changes. They are fed high quality goldfish food, and are given a large tank to keep up with their size. I also have experience with reptiles, as I grew up with tortoises and a bearded dragon. I also have experience with snakes and geckos, per previous pet sitting.

Information Ellen L. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special needs or accomodations I need to plan for. Important information such as physical capabilities, such as if they have hip or orthopedic concerns. I'm concerned for food safety as well, if your dog has specific allergies or diet concerns. Also another major concern is if they are reactive to other dogs or animals; for my safety and the dogs so I can plan accordingly. I will only work with dogs 40lbs and smaller, for my safety and the dogs safety.

A typical day

Just like my own dog, I always focus on enrichment and keeping engagement. This also ties into tailoring to the dog; if we have young dogs, you work to their needs and energy level. Same can be said for senior dogs. And each dog is unique, and genetics only play a role with certain behaviors, such as a Golden Retriever wanting to Retrieve, or a Jack Russel Terrier wanting to dig/tunnel. We can see hounds be more vocal, or shepherds enjoy more mental and physical stimulation due to their work history. All dogs are unique and that's okay!
