High quality pet care, always!

Pet care experience

I can't remember a day that my heart didn't belong to animals. I grew up focused on anything animal related, and now I am pursuing a career in wildlife conservation. I went to school for Conservation Biology and minored in Wildlife Care and Handling, which allowed me to I work as an Animal Care Specialist for more than a year, where I got to spend my days taking care of all sorts of fun animals like wolves, bears, mountain lions, foxes, bobcats, and so many more! Now I'm using Rover to pay off my student loans as fast as possible. I love caring for dogs and cats, but also have experience with barnyard friends and smaller friends that live in tanks and cages. I have been around lots of puppies in training and am a fast learner for each individual's training needs. Additionally, I have cared for, and am comfortable caring for, animals with special medical needs that require additional care, regular medications, and even shots. I have cared for lots of anxious and fear reactive dogs, and am highly attuned to dog body language. One of my favorite parts of Rover is getting to know animals as individuals, each with a unique personality and unique taste for what they like and dislike. I like hearing about their special quirks from their owners, but also pay attention to what the animals tell me themselves. In any interaction with an animal, I let them make the first move. This allows them the space they need to decide when they're ready to be friends.

Safety, trust & environment

My first priority with pets is their safety and wellbeing. I do whatever I can, or need to, to make sure those two needs are met. When petsitting, one way I attend to this is by making sure pets always have proper food and fresh water available to them. After that I like to make sure everyone gets special individual attention, whether that's playing, exercising, snuggling, or whatever activity the pet prefers! Outside of that, I keep an eye out for accidents or messes left by the pet and I do a thorough job cleaning up after them. When walking a dog or dogs, I take multiple precautionary steps to make sure that I will maintain control of the dog I have with me throughout the entire walk. I also maintain awareness of my surroundings at all times, and especially keep an eye out for anything that might pose a risk to the dog, whether that is another dog on the path or things around the path the dog should not get into. I have experience working with reactive dogs and am adept at reading dog body language, so I am able to take proactive steps to completely avoid altercations between dogs.

Information Elizabeth O. would like to know about your pet

I think it is very important to know about any special needs a pet has, and also basic history of the pet. Some things I like to know is how long you've had the pet, if they have any ongoing medical conditions, and for dogs, how they do with other dogs. I also like to know what training they have, and the commands that they are familiar with.

A typical day

I am a lover of the great outdoors and prefer nature preserves for dog walking. Depending on the dog, I am also good at finding a safe route to walk, even if it's not a nature preserve. Otherwise, playing with toys or even doing basic training for mental stimulation is always fun for me, as well as the dog! Seeing a pet is happy brings me great joy, so their happiness is always my priority.

Pet care is priority #1 in my daily schedule, everything else falls around that. I have opened my availability completely starting in April, to accommodate more spring break trips and summer vacations! I like to plan in advance but can also be spontaneous and flexible as needed. Let me know what your needs are and hopefully we can work something out!
