I love animals, and more than enough to want their best care! My family has owned a standard poodle for the past 8 years, raising him from 5 weeks old. He enjoys running around in the yard (on a stake leash if it's a sunny day and other dog walkers are imminent!), playing tug of war, going on long walks or nature hikes, ripping up mail, and I have helped train him dog to receive an Obedience certificate as well as the Canine Good Citizen certificate, and am experienced in how to teach a dog to be potty-trained, sleep in a crate, and learn obedience commands. Since our dog is extremely excitable around loud trucks, wildlife and other dog walkers, I know how to recognize triggers and the beginnings of sudden instinctual behavior and how to navigate away from such situations. I have experience administering oral medication, brushing teeth, applying ointment treatments such as tick and flea, bathing, feeding, giving treats, using a harness, and using a shock yard collar with other dogs that I have taken care of. I have also, unfortunately, had to recognize emergency situations with my dog, such as excessive salivation to indicate nausea, tremors, a wobbly gait, and bloating which could indicate a flipping stomach- something very common in dogs with a pronounced ribcage after guzzling water and running around! Fortunately, I have made quick decisions to bring my dog to the ER when I know it's not just a case of anxiety. In other emergency cases, I know how to administer mouth to mouth (through the nose), and how to deliver CPR (armpit). I also have experience shadowing several veterinarians at a small animal hospital, and have observed routine examinations, surgeries, dental cleanings, and diagnostic imaging. I love animals very much and want them to have the best experience while staying safe!
