If there has been one constant in my life, it has been the presence of animals. I grew up on a farm – one that was home to horses and chickens, and pigs, and of course… numerous dogs. Growing up, I had a diverse canine family - from Beagles to Basset hounds to Saint Bernards. Subsequently, when I started my own family, almost 30 years ago, we adopted several poodles and poodle mixes. Currently, my husband Dan and I share our home with Elsie, a spirited Italian water dog. Being retired and home during the day, friends are encouraged to drop their pups off to play with Elsie. They romp and wrestle in our fenced-in back yard, and go on long walks at one of the several parks close to where we reside. Dogs usually leave our home satisfied with the energy they were able to expend, and ready to curl up, settle in, and reflect on their adventurous days at our home. Oh… and I frequently watch friends’ and family members’ pets for weekends or longer, when work takes them out of town. Looking back, I’ve been fortunate to raise several dogs from puppies to their golden years. As par for the course, some have had conditions like diabetes. That said, I do have experience administering medications such as insulin. I’ve attended numerous training classes and employ a positive reinforcement training philosophy. Being at home full time is new for me, and having ample opportunity to use my home to provide a fun, safe, nurturing environment to other peoples’ pups has brought me a lot of joy – and hopefully will result in a lot of happy pets and their families.
