My first dog, Teddy, lived to be 13 years old. When he reached his senior years, a lot of hard work was needed to take care of him due to his hip dysplasia. We had to help him walk, help him go to the bathroom and help him stand, but every second spent helping him was worth it. Now, I have two smaller dogs, Toby and Finn. I bathe them, feed them, groom them, give them their meds and of course love on them endlessly. I also tend to look after my best friends cats when she is gone for long periods of time by cleaning their litter, making sure they have plenty of food and water and of course give them lots of cuddles and pets.
