Patient pug mom, runner

Pet care experience

I grew up with golden retrievers and have since been adopted by a pug/ chihuahua mix. I love my dog Mildred who's 11-years-old and I've had her since she was 2! She's a bit anxious, so I understand how to work with small anxious pups. I am an avid half marathon trainer, so if your dog needs a long walk or enjoys long runs, please let me know. I'd love to fit them in with my training schedule.

Elissa is wonderful! She truly cares for the pets she takes care of. She is an animal lover through and through and is as responsible as they get.

Elissa took care of our high-energy dog on a few occasions and is an absolute saint. She’s very responsible, wonderful and patient with animals and has plenty of experience. Couldn’t recommend enough!

I like to be in-tune with what dogs need. That could be extra playtime, smell time outside, pets and sits on the carpet next to them. I love to cuddle dogs if they're up for it, but I'm also happy to give them the space they need if they are feeling overwhelmed. Puppy kisses and jumps are totally normal in my book, too. When I got my dog, Mildred, she was an aggressive licker and biter. I worked with her to tone down her licking and she doesn't bite anymore. When meeting a new dog, I'll get on their level and wait for them to come to me. No forced interaction and light, cheerful voices is where I'm at on a daily basis. I only use "no" for serious situations and will say "uh-uh" or "excuse me" if I want to get the dogs' attention.

Information Elissa Ann T. would like to know about your pet

I'd love to know the do's and don'ts for pets. What should I focus on and what should I not do. Any and all information on how to make you and your pet a comfortable as possible would be wonderful.

A typical day

I love to have park days, long walks or hike, fetch and games where I hide treats in certain spots and they have to sniff them out.

I absolutely love dogs. I have a small 15-pound chihuahua who requires three small walks a day (8:15-8:45 a.m.; 2:30 p.m.-3 p.m.; 8 p.m.-8:15 p.m.). I'm happy to hangout for as long as she needs to make sure she can do her business, smell around and people watch. She hates the rain, so sometimes it's a quick walk around the block, then we head inside. I also clean her feet before she comes inside and give her small treats throughout the day. We also listen to soothing music when I work from home so she can nap and maintain a relaxed vibe.
