Pet care experience
I’ve been a cat lover since I got my first kitten at age 7. I never considered myself comfortable with dogs until I started housesitting for a dear friend, watching his two dogs. My husband and I do not have pets, and when I was in the corporate world, I didn’t have a lot of time for pet sitting but I love cats and dogs! Now I have my own company and my schedule is entirely my own. I have discovered the joy of watching dogs during my workday for people who cannot be at home with their pets. I walk to work in good weather (minimum 2 miles RT), which gives the dog a wonderful opportunity to get extra exercise, and I have a 300 square-foot office that I occupy by myself and can easily accommodate the needs of most dogs during the workday. I also love taking care of dogs and cats in their own home environments. I love playtime, snuggles, and I feel strongly that YOU know what is best for your pet - especially when it comes to food, care, and schedule! I am a mature and responsible professional that can be counted on. I have a car and I am an excellent communicator. I am totally comfortable with pets that need extra special care and I can lift up to 40 lbs comfortably. I am very familiar with the local trails (Greenbelt/Trustees) that are good for longer dog walks in nature too. For the safety of your dog, and myself, I respect leash laws. I also have experience with senior care (through Age Span) and would be happy to assist older pet owners that struggle with pet care. Ideally I also want your pet to know me and feel comfortable with me. I am not doing this service for a quick gig, I want to have a relationship with your pet. All of the pets that I sit for know me well and even if months have past recognize me when I return. The comfort of your pet is number one and I want you to feel that I can offer an extension of the love you give your pet.

I do not care for cats in my home because of my husband’s allergies. I love to have a dog with me for part of or a full workday because it allows me to include the dog on my walking commute (2-4 miles) and allows the dog to relax and play at my office while I’m working. This gives us an opportunity to have breaks together for playtime and popping outside. If I am sitting at your home, or dropping in, I always want to understand the full parameters of your pet’s needs. I appreciate detailed information about care and feeding, and always want to know what types of play are best for your pet. It is my goal to know so much that I never have to bother you but to also feel connected and make sure to provide regular updates so that you can know that your pet is happy and living his/her best life! I have a deep appreciation and respect for private space, and will also be sensitive about coming and going and appreciate discretion. For my own safety I cannot sit for a dog that is more than 40 lbs.

I will need a favorite toy, leash, and any details from you about things to watch out for when walking with your dog. If your dog has a favorite bed to rest in during the day I will want to take it with us to the office so that he/she can feel right at home. I will have fresh water and will want to know the full expectations for feeding and treats and have their faves from you when you drop off or I pick up.
A typical day
Absolutely! I work for myself so in between meetings and projects we will pop out for potty breaks or play with toys. We will walk to and from my office to so that I can grab lunch at home (.8 miles each way). Lunch often involves time in on the deck (fenced) sitting and enjoying the outside. Sometimes we will take an afternoon break to walk to the beach or the park as well! A note about Doggy Day-Care rates - If you entrust your dog to me for part or all of a work day we will travel between my apartment and my office. I have a private office space and typically walk to work (weather permitting) so this is a very good way for your dog to get some exercise to and from and often home at the lunch hour as well.

Availability
Because I work for myself I have a flexible schedule and can often work around your needs. That being said, I have serious work commitments of my own, and will always communicate the parameters of my availability. I love to get started early in the morning, but I can also be available during the day and in the evening on most days.
