Enthusiastic about caring for pets!

Pet care experience

Nothing brings me more joy than walking dogs & taking care of pets. I love being around all kinds of animals, but I’m not at a point in my life where I can commit to owning one myself. So I fill the animal-shaped void in my life by petsitting as much as possible! I’ve been petsitting for around five years, and took care of my own pets before that, including a dog, birds, and various reptiles.

Eileen was the most fantastic dog sitter. I always get nervous when I have to leave Lentil (my 2 year old, highly energetic, highly anxious pup) for a while and having Eileen take care of him made all the difference. During the 4 days she was with Lentil she sent me constant updates, adorable photos from walks and fetch sessions, and when I picked him up Lentil was so happy and healthy. He had such a great 4 days with Eileen and I’m so grateful to her for her high standard of care and love to my fur baby! And Lentil adores her. Would recommend Eileen to anyone, 20/10.

Eileen is such a wonderful, kind, intentional animal-lover! She treats pets like family and royalty at the same time. She is great at following instructions, going the extra mile, and giving your pets lots of love.

Eileen is an awesome petsitter. She stayed at our house for a few nights, which included New Years Eve. We have a 13 yr old puggle, a 1 1/2 yr old great Pyrenees mix, and a 2 1/2 yr old domestic short-haired cat. She gave them lots of love and took the high energy dog for two walks each day. We forgot to take a house key so she even came to our rescue when we returned by running over to let us in the house! She is amazing and I hope she is available in June when I need a pet sitter again!

I would recommend Eileen as a dog sitter for anyone looking for someone responsible and loving to watch their dog. Eileen and I are currently roommates and I needed someone to watch my dog, Sadie, while my family and I were busy for the day. I was stressed about leaving Sadie alone because she has rarely been separated from people in my family. At the time, she was only one year old and has anxiety. She constantly whines when she is without her owners and refuses to obey simple commands given by strangers. Eileen proved to me that there was nothing to worry about. She welcomed Sadie with open arms and showered her with love. She sent me text updates throughout the day assuring me that Sadie was doing well. When I returned I saw the progress Eileen had made with Sadie. Sadie was not upset to be around Eileen and had warmed up to her well. In the future, I will be having Eileen watch Sadie because she is one of the few people outside my immediate family that Sadie is not anxious around.

Safety, trust & environment

Typically when caring for animals I follow the owner’s lead in terms of feeding/walks/routine, but expect to spend 100% of my attention on the animal while I am responsible for it. To me, taking care of animals is relaxing and stress relieving, no matter how high-maintenance the animal is. So I enjoy providing the best care and attention that I possibly can to the pets I am in charge of. :)

Information Eileen T. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special needs or quirks (fears, habits, etc) that I should be aware of. I am an observant and attentive caregiver, but it’s always good to know if a dog has a particular trigger or is reactive to certain things, such as men, or other dogs. I am also happy to provide any supplements or oral medication to your dog if those details are provided ahead of time!

A typical day

I love providing dogs with mental stimulation, as well as physical. I enjoy coming up with puzzles and problems for them to solve, such as finding a treat under a folded up towel - I’ve found that dogs love the game, and mental stimulation is a quick way to wear them out! I also enjoy LONG walks, and usually allow dogs to sniff and investigate as much as they want (following proper etiquette regarding peoples’ property, of course).

I work part time at a bookstore as well as freelance copywriting, so my hours are my own at least five days a week. I typically work 10-6 on Fridays and Saturdays and I’m very flexible the rest of the week. An ideal and balanced petcare routine for me would include 1-2 hours of dogwalking every day during the week and petsitting every other weekend.
