Pet care experience
I've been taking care of dogs and cats through Rover for more than two years. I've taken care of very young puppies to senior dogs, feral cats I never even see to friendly head-butters! I love meeting all the different types of dogs and cats and their owners. I've volunteered with a local dog rescue for the past 12 years, taking care of puppies and older dogs while they are in quarantine and helping to match a dog to the perfect owners. I've had cats for more than 30 years, some with medical issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, blindness and cancer. I know how to give a diabetic pet its shots or administer other medication. Of course, whether I do that successfully depends on your pet, but I will try to the best of my ability without agitating your pet or endangering myself. If your dog needs a good brisk walk or a more leisurely pace, I'm the one for it! Snow, rain, heat won't keep me away, and if your regular walker cancels unexpectedly, I'll do my best to accommodate last-minute requests. I've been a runner all my life, so I love to get out into the outdoors. Combining two of my favorite things (exercise and dogs) is a dream come true! My current dog was an escape artist when she was younger, and I've learned the tricks and tools to keep her safe and secure on walks. Your pet's safety is my first concern; having fun with them is a close second! I'm trustworthy, reliable and committed to providing the best care for your beloved nonhuman family member!

There is no one answer to how I care for other people's pets. Each pet has unique needs. I work with the pet owners to make sure that whatever they do for their pets each day, I also do. My own pets (I only have one right now) get a ton of attention and exercise and the best vet care. I love to take my dogs on walks and hikes; unfortunately, my last pet is aging and our walks are shorter and slower. I work at home now, so I'm really happy that I can be with my last dog (for now!) as much as possible.

If I'm going to be walking a dog, it's important that I know how they react around people and other dogs they might meet on a walk. For their safety, I do not let my doggy clients go up to other dogs or people, but if they are reactive, I want to make sure I can handle them. My doggy and kitty clients' safety is my first priority. Of course, I need to know the basics: when they eat, what they eat, any special requirements, exercise needs.
A typical day
I have local places in Haverhill that I walk my dogs: Winnekenni Park, Riverside Park are two of my favorites. Mostly I walk dogs in their neighborhoods. I have a lot of fun with dogs whose owners have fenced-in yards. We run and wrestle and play with toys, whatever the dog likes to do! If it's an older, less active dog, I'm perfectly happy providing 30 minutes of belly rubs. I'm very active and I'm great at keeping a dog entertained for a whole half hour by switching out toys and activities.

Availability
I'm a freelance book editor who works from home, and I'm looking to care for pets to break up my days. I'm also a pianist in a duo providing music for seniors, so I need to work my schedule around my gigs, which take place three times a week usually (I'd be unavailable from noon to around 4) on varying days. Otherwise, I'm available from early morning until late evening! I specialize in vacation coverage or short bookings, and because of my schedule, cats often work better for me than dogs, and I can accommodate only one midday let-out or walk.
