I’ve had pets most of my life (I’m 57) and have recently cared for dogs of friends who then suggested I check out Rover to expand possible options (one called me her “dog whisperer”).

Douglas was wonderful with our newly rescued dog, Shiloh, while we were away for five days. He faithfully walked her and played ball with her even in the deluge of recent rain. And he even bathed her. Shiloh was well taken care of by Douglas.
Douglas is awesome! My dog is a rescue and has some quirks. He took to Douglas right away. We have never had anyone but family dog sit for us but our parents our getting older and not up to doing it anymore. This is also the first time we have left our new rescue alone overnight so we were nervous. On top of that, my husband works in software security and is wary of having strangers in our house. Douglas really helped us to feel comfortable with all of it. He has a very gentle nature and he was great with our little monster. He sent us pics and videos during our week long vacation and was always easily reachable via text. The house was in great shape when we returned. We wanted to use him again but he was already booked with someone else for our next trip. We absolutely will use him again if he isn’t booked!
Douglas (and his partner Amy) stayed in our home for 6 nights while we were out of town and we were very pleased with his communication (daily), cleanliness, trustworthiness and care for our dogs (and home). We did an initial meet-and-greet prior to selecting him to get to know him a little and review our dog-related routine. They were both very engaging and playful with the dogs while here, stayed for a full hour. He was very willing to learn about walking with our dog that has leash-reactivity issues, even though this wasn't something he was familiar with (and I was a bit apprehensive about). We came home to happy/relaxed dogs, kind comments/feedback about them and a clean home! I wouldn't hesitate to use Douglas again to stay in our home/care for our dogs! Thank you Douglas (& Amy)!!
Douglas not only did all the standard things (my house is just as I left it, I got the happiest doggy update photos, and he followed all of my directions diligently) but he somehow magically transferred some of his Zen tranquillity to my hyper large pooch, an impressive feat. I trust him and will definitely book with him again.

Love being outdoors and a well-exercised dog is a happy one, so numerous walks are in the plan so long as that’s what your dog wants, around the neighborhood or at a nearby park, mimicking as closely as possible their daily routine so they can be as happy and relaxed as possible until you get back.

A typical day
This mostly depends on your dog, since every pup is different. Do they want walks and a play buddy to throw the ball? Or are they an older dog who’s over chasing balls but would still like a leisurely walk? Are they just anxious, and could use a buddy to hang out with? I want to do what it is that your dog needs.
