Life-long dog owner and lover!

Pet care experience

I've always loved and owned dogs, I have an extensive history of working with animals in all kinds of situations, and I’ve absolutely loved getting to take care of them. I became a pet sitter simply because I love caring for dogs because they care so much for other people. Sitting gives me a great way to give back to both pups as well as my community. Dogs (and animals in general) have always been a huge part of my life. I've had three dogs in my lifetime, as well as 2 cats, 3 horses, and a rabbit. I grew up on a dairy farm, so that allowed me to raise animals of all shapes and sizes. I have two dogs currently, one that is a rescue and one that I've owned since 9 weeks. My rescue dog, Otis, is completely blind so I have experience with special needs dogs. I also have experience with a broad range of dogs, including fostering puppies to dogs that have recently given birth, to senior pups, and those with tons of energy! I've dog sat for friends and family in the past and for pups that required oral medications. I was a volunteer at the La Plata County Humane Society and took numerous college level small animal safety classes. No matter what, you can be rest assured that your pup will be safe and in good hands with me. I love making my dogs and dog owners happy! But I know how stressful it can be to be away from your best friend, so I’m here to make that time as easy as possible. I do that by providing tons of regular communication! I will always keep you updated with how your pooch is getting along with cute pictures and daily text messages or emails. I also would ensure I ask lots of questions at the meet-and-greet to make sure I really understand your dog’s needs. A meet-and-greet is one of the best ways for me to get a good idea of how to make your pup’s stay a dream come true! Once I get a good idea of how best to cater to you and your pup, I will combine that with my own expertise to make sure that every stay is the best it can be.

Fantastic sitter! Needed someone to stay with our girl, who had some separation anxiety when she went to a friends house. Dorothy came to our place for an overnight, which worked great. Very responsive with communication, would definitely recommend to anyone!

Dorothy was the first house sitter I’ve used and she made me feel extremely comfortable leaving my pets for the weekend. She was very communicative & responsive to all of my messages and sent me plenty of pics. I could tell by the pictures that my babies were relaxed and very happy with her there. I would definitely hire Dorothy again to watch my lovebugs! Thanks Dorothy :)

Information Dorothy P. would like to know about your pet

Some things I like to learn ahead of time: - Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? - What’s your preferred method of communication? - Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? - Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? - What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? - What’s the best way to spoil your pup?

A typical day

I love to stay active, so I’m happy to take in pups that enjoy getting lots of exercise and doing tons of activities. Walks and runs are always on the menu during the day! I only work between 3-6:30 on weekdays, so I won’t be gone too long during the day. Outside of that, we have plenty of time for activities and playtime. I’m a great fit for pups that are used to having a human presence around them during the day. I love to hike and spend time outside, so every day will have some kind of exercise element to it. There are plenty of good hiking trails nearby that are perfect for pups. In addition to that, there are a few good parks and a dog park that is perfect for socializing and getting some all-important off-leash time in!
