PhD Student and Dog Lover

Pet care experience

I have been pet sitting for over past 10 years. Not only have I cared for dogs, I also have experience with cats and small rodents. I recently graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. I am now in the second year of my PhD at the University of Washington. During the weekends I will be around all day and can exercise your dogs at any time. I am fairly active and love running with my own dog Maggie, if that is something you think your dog would like I would be happy to do that. Maggie is a highly intelligent dog and has given me a chance to learn a great deal about dog training. Dog walking and house sitting isn't cheap so I would love to help with any extra things you would like your dog to learn while I am taking care of them.

Doria was an excellent dog sitter for our 13 year old dachshund Louie. He can be a bit suspicious of new people, but he liked Doria right away when she came over for a meet-and-greet. She sent photos of Louie to us to and let us know how he was doing while we were out of town. We wouldn't hesitate to book her again!

Safety, trust & environment

I believe in structure when it comes to making sure you dog is happy and healthy. Having a high energy dog myself she thrives on predictability and clear boundaries. I believe in crate training until the dogs have earned my trust in the house. When I am walking your dog I will spend time making sure they are walking in a loose leash heel. When at a park or play field the dog will always be leashed (using a long line) to ensure they cannot run off. I don't believe in dog parks as they can do more harm than good but I am more than happy to let your dog and my dog play together if they seem to get along well. Safety and your dog's well being is a top priority for me.

Information Doria U. would like to know about your pet

I have no preferences regarding what breed I will be taking care of. I have experience with reactive dogs and want to have discussions about how I can best support them to avoid or work through their triggers. It would be great to know about your dog's walk preferences (distance, speed, treats etc) and if you have anything you want me to work on with them while we are walking. When I am stopping by/house sitting overnight please give me feeding routines, toilet schedule and anything else that would be important to know to make sure your dog is well taken care of while you are away.

A typical day

I am fairly active so I would be more than happy to take your dog on a run if they have a lot of energy they need to get out! Otherwise I love prioritizing working the dog's brain as it is incredibly enriching for them. Working on loose leash walking, doing scent games, teaching tricks and playing fetch are a few of my favorite things to do with my dog but I am happy to do whatever you dog enjoys.
