Life long pet owner looking for fuzzy friends :)

Pet care experience

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Sussex looking to make ends meet by offering my flexible pet sitting services to dogs, cats and their owners living within Brighton. Having grown up in a household with cats and dogs from the day I was born, I am more than used to loving and caring for animals and understanding their needs. When up north, in my family home, I look after a beautiful rescue dog (German shephard X Border Collie cross) named Belle who is of a naturally nervous disposition. Having had her as part of the family for the last 8 years, I have a special understanding of what to expect with and how to appropriately care for dogs who may find socialising a little more difficult. After moving to Brighton to study and deciding to stay for the better weather, I enjoy dog walking in the city's many parks and, of course, along the seafront. If appropriate, I may take your furry friend to a dog-friendly cafe for a couple of hours if I'm pet sitting for the entirety of the day. My job in retail (dog loving LUSH Brighton) means that I often have weekdays free to pet sit (always Wednesdays and Thursdays in addition to one other weekday) as well as Sundays. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Dominic has been a delightful Dog walker for our beloved family dog. He is a reliable, friendly and trustworthy dog sitter who makes us feel at ease when we leave Fudge in his care. Dominic takes Fudge on many walks, and sends us pictures of their adventures to assure us he is in safe hands. I can't recommend him enough for helping us out and being an active, caring and patient dog sitter who has been an asset to our family!

Dominic grew up with animals as well as with a dog, two cats and two rats. The German Shepherd-Collie Cross dog was found in Spain as a rescue when only 12 weeks old. Dominic did more than his share of walking, grooming and training compared to other family members. He understands and respects dogs, that somehow know he is a dog person and go to him with their trust and love. Now that he has left home and missing 'his' dog, he yearns to maintain contact with other dogs and will be a great and trusted dog-sitting member of Rover.com.

Dominic did a wonderful job of taking care of Picci, my King Charles Spaniel while I was away in Italy for two weeks. He followed my instructions very carefully and made sure to contact me with any questions. He also regularly kept me up to date documenting the long walks him and Picci went on. I was especially pleased that he’d even taught her to ‘high five’ back with her paw, something I’ve tried to do many times with little success. I’d definitely recommend Dom as a pet carer to anybody as he is extremely caring, loving and responsible and has a genuine passion for animal friends.

Information Dominic R. would like to know about your pet

Before sitting a dog, I would love to know their usual requirements (portion sizes, any medicines etc.) as well as their temperament and how they behave with other people and other dogs. This is so as to ensure that all interactions are safe and fun for everyone.

A typical day

Living just a stone's throw away from Queen's Park, your doggy friend will almost certainly enjoy a walk around this wonderful green space when he/she has a stay with me. This park has a large stretch of grass designated as the doggy play area where your pet can meet and play with other dogs. Another favourite park of mine is Preston Park, not least because it has plenty of space to walk around unlike other parks such as the Level. I can also provide my own tennis balls and frisbees to make sure they're well exercised before returning home. For larger dogs who enjoy longer walks and don't mind getting a little muddy, I am also in relatively close proximity to the expansive hills and greenery near the race track at the top of Elm Grove, and would be happy to take them round here during daylight hours. At home, your dog will stay with me and up to three other dog lovers in their 20s if/when they're in. He/she will have access to a large living room, a secure, high-walled Hanover garden and three floors of the house to explore. I don't tend to feed human food to animals but I may offer dog/cat treats to well behaved pets :) In warmer weather, I spend a lot of my time outside and may take your dog for the occasional picnic in the park.
