Hi there! I'm Derek, a NY resident living in LA for the summer trying to learn the layout of Los Angeles and make some money by walking dogs. I love dogs with all my soul and I've never seen one that didn't warm my heart at least a little. I hope you can find it in you to trust me with your special pet! When I was 12, my parents told my siblings the ONLY way we were getting a dog was if we read the whole dog-care book and took care of the dogs mostly on our own. Being the oldest, I took the helm in learning how to care for and train dogs. Our family quickly grew to include Nico, a golden-haired cock-a-poo, and Coco, a habanese-maltese-terrier-mix who was NOT as hypoallergenic as she was promised to be. Fast forward 11 years to 2020, and my dogs became the ones taking care of me! During the COVID-19 pandemic we walked every day, and that activity provided an anchor during a time that was unmoored from modern living. When I got my vaccine and experienced severe side effects like shivers and nausea, Nico never left my side the entire night. While I couldn't hope to forge such a bond with your pet, I hope I can help them feel comfortable as you go about your busy day!

Derek had been walking and taking care of our dogs for years. He is a smart, gentle, patient young man who loves dogs. He is nurturing and caring and has brought some concerns about our dogs to my attention that needed medical attention from the Vet and he was right! I am grateful for his love and care of our dogs and recommend him highly!
Derek is a great caretaker. He would walk my dog Coal, Black Lab mix, every week and was great. Coal loved Derek and Derek was open to watching Coal when we would go on vacation and would offer to take him on longer walks if we needed it.

In my home, I feed my pets once when I wake up and once around dinner time. If they don't eat within ~2 hours, I get rid of the food. back home, I take my own dogs for walks around 5-6 pm and I'll sit in the park or an empty field and let them run around. For grooming, I brush Coco weekly because she sheds. I bathe them about once a month and they have appointments every few weeks to get groomed. I'm familiar with dealing with fleas and giving pills to dogs as well.

A typical day
I go on moderate to long walks with my dogs to explore the parks in my area. If you're comfortable with it, I'd like to do the same with yours! I always keep them on the leash and respect the space of other dogs, and would take your dog home if I saw any signs that it was starting to get exhausted.

I just recently arrived in Los Angeles after driving across North America. Since my arrival I have tested negative for COVID 19. At the moment, I'm planning to do 2 walks a day in-between searching for full-time jobs and spending time exploring LA.
