Dog Trainer in Training here! 1. I LOVE dogs and have spent my entire life around them. I grew up, like many, with family dogs from a young age. I currently have a 3.5 year old Shepherd/Hound/Lab rescue who has not only become a best friend to me but has gone through an amazing transition. After spending his first year out in the "wild" (streets of Long Beach we think) prior to rescue, he has gone from a strong fear of indoors to a compassionate, obedient, totally integrated friendly family dog. 2. I am currently training and apprenticing to become a full-time canine trainer and animal behavioral therapist! While my training is always ongoing, I have a good underlying knowledge of operant conditioning and canine training methods. Every dog I get to meet and work with is a new opportunity I look forward to!

It was obvious from the moment that Derek did the “Meet and Greet” with Cookie (70 pound female Brittany mix) that Derrk was an AWESOME dog sitter. We did a quick walk together and Cookie responded to him very well. From his little fanny pack he pulled out a few little traats to help get acquainted as well as a poop bag when needed. The photos he sent after each walk showed a very happy Cookie. I will definitely be trying for him first, next time I need a sitter/walker.
Derek was the first dog walker I’ve ever used, and we so lucky and grateful to have him! Derek is so warm and loving with my puppy, Noodle; they bonded very quickly which is a big deal for this shy and timid puppy. I couldn’t be more impressed with Derek’s knowledge about dogs and passion for his work! Derek is also incredibly responsive, reliable, and accommodating. Five stars and more for Derek!
Derek did a great job taking care of our dog Sunny for four days while we were away. Sunny was not familiar with Derek beforehand but he managed to put him at ease and they became fast friends. Derek and Sunny did lots of playing and walking. It was nice to get texts and pictures from Derek throughout the stay. Will definitely use Derek again.
Couldn’t be happier with Derek as a dog walker! I had originally booked him for just a few days to help out while I was recovering from surgery and couldn’t exercise my dog, but he was so great with my pup that I’m planning to have him keep stopping by a couple times a week once I go back to work. He’s professional, calm and patient with my pup, and clearly understands and cares a lot about dogs. I appreciate that he incorporates some basic training into the walks as well; my dog comes back exhausted and happy. Highly recommended!
