A home away from home

Pet care experience

I'm currently working on my Masters degree and I work part time from home, so I have a lot of time to devote to dogs that I am pet sitting! I care for and treat each dog as if they are my own. I am a “hover mother” type dog owner (I fully admit it!), and I extend that treatment to the dogs I care for. I strive to provide your dog with a happy experience, one that mirrors what they are used to at home with maybe even more fun time and activities! I provide all clients with regular updates on how their dog is doing, including photos and videos. I really love dog training and consider myself somewhat of an amateur dog trainer. I have helped numerous clients with issues they were working on with their dogs including potty issues, unwanted barking, jumping, as well as simple commands. I am happy to do this for any dog if requested! I have a 10 year old Corgi-German Shepherd mix named Ollie. She’s very calm, sweet and loves people. She is not very hyper or active and spends most of her time lounging. She does well with other dogs around - but mostly just ignores them, so unfortunately she is not the best playmate for younger puppies! Ollie is an older alpha and can be grumpy upon first meeting other dogs, but she has gotten along with every dog that has stayed with us after she’s established that she isn’t going to be the most fun playmate :/ She had two knee surgeries 3 years ago and since then, she has been less active and isn’t excited about playing with hyper pups.

We are so GRATEFUL and glad we found Denise on Rover!!!! My Boston Terrier loved staying with her and became besties with her dog Ollie! It was weird, but after we picked up our doggie Myla was a bit sad.... Why? Cause she missed Denise and Ollie! That’s how we know Denise is the best dog sitter on this app!!! 10+ stars IMO. Thank you Denise for caring for our girl! We feel blessed to have found you.

Denise is amazing. She was great with our dog and kept us updated our entire trip by sending photos and videos. We will certainly ask her to watch our dog again!

Safety, trust & environment

I live in a house with a large fenced yard and plenty of grass for running. I always have a discussion with clients around the heat and outside time in the summer. Your dog will never be left alone in the yard for long periods of time. I always supervise them and ensure that no dog gets overheated, starts digging to China, or eats a strange mystery morsel. The yard has tons of shade, lovely backyard couches that are pet friendly as well as a fresh water doggie bowl installed just for them! Again, I limit outside time in the hotter months and ensure my home is cool and comfortable. I know this is very important for some breeds who have breathing issues and aren’t able to cool down as quickly. My neighborhood is very safe with a local park and access to the American River trail, where I walk my dog frequently. I typically walk dogs that I dogsit along with Ollie in the mornings and evenings. I have an extra large dog bed that your dog is welcome to use and plenty of dog toys/treats to share as well, so your pup can feel at home. I always provide your pup with freshly laundered blankets on their bed. I'm able to do overnight sitting for both short term and long-term stays. I always have first time visitors do a meet and greet at my house and yard with our pets prior to having me watch their dogs.

Information Denise A. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know how your dog does with other dogs, how much exercise he or she typically needs, if they have any injuries, take any meds or have special care requirements, and any potty habits I should be aware of. I would also like to know their preferred sleeping situation (i.e. do they sleep in a crate or are they used to sleeping in bed with you?) What causes them stress? (Are they afraid of being left alone?) Do they have any toy or food aggression? Afraid of loud noises? Are they an escape artist? Any history of aggression? Please make sure your dog is up to date on shots and on flea medication as well. For first time sitting, I’d like at least a week’s notice so we can set a time for you to bring your dog over to my house for a quick meet and greet. I think it’s just a good idea to make sure our dogs get along well enough and you are able to see the environment where your dog will be.

A typical day

Ollie and I typically go on 1-2 walks per day in the neighborhood, or we may go to the local park. Sometimes we drive to McKinley park and walk around the pond as well. I’m able to give a lot of attention and exercise for dogs that need a little extra! I spend a lot of time interacting with your dog 1:1 by playing tug of war, fetch in the yard, frisbee or whatever it is your dog likes to do with you at home! I also provide ‘brain activity’ toys, in which there are treats hidden inside of a toy to keep them busy and focused. If their diet permits, I also love to go pick up puppacinos as a special treat :)

Availability

My schedule is flexible in general, and that applies to drop off and pick up times also. I am very responsible and reliable; I am always available by phone. In regard to any special requirements that your dog may have (i.e. medications or special diets), I am completely able to provide. I regularly watch several dogs that have high special needs. I have safely taken care of dogs that have spinal issues and have limited motion, dogs on special diets that require food prep, etc. I have no difficulty with administering any kind of medication including pills, eye drops, etc.
