Trained vet tech looking to help!

Pet care experience

PLEASE NOTE: if your quote is saying full price per animal, it is wrong. I have a significantly lower rate for additional pets. I work 10 hour shifts, so my rough approximation of hours is 7pm-7am. I can be more flexible on weekends, but midday visits are rarely possible. I also charge $0.25/mile round trip (calculated once per visit or overnight) due to the frequency for long distance jobs. Hello! My name is Delaney. I did casual pet sitting as a teenager, and then was trained on the job to become a veterinary technician. I started in veterinary medicine in 2013 in a veterinary clinic, worked in two different top-of-the-line specialty hospitals, and I can happily go work for two of those places if I have the spare time (I'm kept on the roster as a spare). I’ve worked (volunteer or intern) at Carolina Tiger Rescue, Duke Lemur Center, Veterinary Specialty Hospital, Second Chance Pet Adoptions, and Michigan Humane Society (MHS), Dixie Trail Animal Clinic, and VSRP. However, being a veterinary technician does not really pay the bills (that's why we all do pet-sitting on the side!). I've recently (03/2018) become an electrician apprentice and that is currently my primary employer. Pet-sitting is now my primary way to still work with animals as much as possible until I can find other avenues. What I can bring to the table: -Trained to handle high-strung animals -Comfortable medicating old/ailing pets via oral, topical or injectable medications. -Bathing, casual grooming -Maintaining food and water with one, two, or three visits per day (typically early AM, 6-7 PM, 10-11 PM) -Exercising 1-3 times a day with leashed walking in the neighborhood or parks, fetch or other preferred games in off-leash dog parks, and exercise in your own backyard. Ultimately, you tell me what you’d like and I’ll do it. I do live near Umstead Park and I love the park, so that’s always a great place to visit! -Training exercises during walks or after play time is over. -Overnight care -I can also watch, feed, and clean up after your cats and other pets if needed for a small additional fee. -The observational skills of a trained veterinary nurse. Please message me so that we can work out a visit schedule! I am very flexible with my hours and can start as early as 5 AM and visit as late as 11 PM if needed. I am at your service. My default time for the rates provided is approximately 7p-7a. If you want different times or longer overnights, please just let me know! Besides dogs, I am willing to pet sit for cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and pretty much any other pet that isn't inclined to devour me (so no tigers, bears, or lions!). I've worked with horses, dairy cattle, pigs, goats, and more.

Delaney is fantastic. She just took care of my nearly 17-year old golden/lab for a week. The dog and the house are in great shape.

We were lucky to have Delaney watch Sasha 2 times this summer while we were away! We certainly trust her to take great care of both our house as well as our aging, anxious Shih Tzu!

Our family recently returned from our week long vacation and we were lucky enough to have Delaney stay and watch our dog Sasha. When we returned, we came home to a house just as we had left it and a very well cared for pooch! Sasha has been having more anxiety issues in her old age when we are not around resulting in frequent vomiting but much to our wondrous surprise, no issues for the entire week! Will definitely be using Delaney again! Thank you!

I'd like to start by saying that our initial experience with Delaney was very positive. As we got to know her, she became our "go to" to drop in on our cat when we were out of town. However, the last two times we "hired" her, she never showed up. The first time, she still took payment, although we were doubtful she did the work. The second time, she simply never showed and never followed up for payment, or to apologize for forgetting about our poor sweet boy. Delaney showed us extreme immaturity and unprofessionalism, and we would advise that she not be trusted.

My only line drawn is that the dog not be actively, excessively aggressive so as to create an unsafe environment. I don't mind dogs that are shy, skittish, growl some, or need me to move slowly. Earning trust takes time, and I understand that.

A typical day

There are normal, routine, leashed walks in places that dogs are accepted like Umstead Park, and dog parks once I know the dog well enough to trust him/her. If I can let the dog off the leash, we can play fetch or tag or whatever game the dog is known to prefer. Once exercised enough to be tuckered out, I can offer some training if the owner desires it.
