Retiree Debra's Farm Bed & Biscuit

Pet care experience

Debra is retired, home full time enjoying her farm and would like to spend time providing kind, private and dedicated care to your dog. Debra desires to keep the number of care taking dogs down to no more than 2 which means more private and personalized care for your fur baby. However, if you own more than 2 dogs, Debra is happy to take on more dogs to accommodate your needs. Debra also care takes farm animals should you have those needs. Debra has over 50 years experience with both small and large dogs (Shih Tzus, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Terry Poodle, Australian Cattle, Retrievers (Labrador & Chesapeake), and English Sheep). In the past, Debra has owned up to 3 dogs (small and large) so is familiar with walking and watching multiple dogs each with their unique personalities and needs. Debra has raised over a dozen dogs (different breeds) from puppies to ripe old age and is experienced in helping dogs learn to be the best dogs and live long and healthy lives! She also helped her Shih Tzus whelp a litter. Debra maintains a dog friendly, climate controlled house with soothing music to ensure pets are relaxed and comfortable during their stay-cation. She and her husband, Paul, live on 6.5 acres situated on a dead end street above an equestrian center with several large pasture areas for exercise. The 2 horses (Lilly and Poco), both dog friendly, are rotated around 4 pastures so there's always 3 pastures available solely for dog exercise. The photos found in 'Debra's Canine Client' section of her profile where property is shown with white fencing were all taken on Debra's farm. In addition to horses, Debra owns 2 goats (Carmello and Billy), two fancy goldfish (Picasso and Gershwin) and several friendly egg laying chickens. Other animals have adopted Debra's farm as well - Rabbits, Hummingbirds and Song birds - all creating an interesting and stimulating environment for your pet. While Debra doesn't have cats in her home due to her husband's allergies, she grew up with cats and loves to get her cat 'fix' by taking care of them at your place. For those seeking house sitting care, Debra follows care instructions and provides frequent communication on your pet's needs as well as any minor home needs (picking up mail, watering plants, feeding fish, bringing delivered packages inside, setting out garbage cans). Debra worked her way through college at an aquarium store so is familiar with fish and reptile care including tropical fish, both salt water and fresh. She is experienced with the correct amount to feed aquatic pets. With the owner's permission, Debra also enjoys taking client's dogs for a short car ride to one of our many local park trails for a walking treat. Debra is within walking distance of a secluded section of Lk Youngs 9-mile trail ensuring a quiet walk with minimal dog encounters. She is within 30 minutes drive to many other trails and often walks mornings with her twin sister, Diane, along with her 3 Pomeranians, on trails at Soo's Creek, Lake Wilderness Park and Covington Park. Her current favorite local hiking trails are found at Cougar Mountain Regional Park offering over 50 trails across 30,000 acres. She and her hiking buddy, Scarlett, can be found there a couple times a week. Dogs love Debra and are quick to greet her with a wag and a kiss. They seem to sense she's an animal loving person. Dogs love her husband as well - squealing in delight when he arrives home from work. He also has been a dog owner all his life growing up with Boston Terriers. Debra has a quiet disposition and is physically active (jogging, walking, hiking, and paddling with Dragon Boat Ladies of the Lake team on Lake Meridian). Because she owns dogs, horses, goats and chickens, she is knowledgeable and equipped to handle basic animal first aid. She also owned a pug prone to seizures so is familiar with those challenges. For those with farm animals, Debra is willing to board your goat, mini, donkey or horses. The rate would be the same as a dog boarding rate. She is also available to take care of farm animals at your place for the same rate as house sitting. Debra would like you to know: 1) Pet's left unattended will be secured in separate rooms and provided food, water, and a comfortable place to rest. 2) Your pet will be treated as her own and allowed the full run of the house (and furniture) unless you specify otherwise. That includes access to 1/2 acre dog proofed, fenced pasture when weather permits. 3) A typical day agenda is as follows: 5:30am quick morning potty walk; 6am breakfast; 30-minute walk/slow jog usually on Lake Youngs; Late morning unleashed, 30-minute romp in the dog proofed fenced pasture; Afternoon hike (1 to 2 hours) at a local park; nap; Evening 30-minute romp in the pasture; dinner; evening walk; 10pm bed time preceded by a quick potty break. Regardless of age, dogs are pottied about every 2 hours during the day and receive lots of petting and cuddle time in between activities. Agenda can be happily modified to your pet's needs. Debra understands how hard it is to leave your fur babies with someone else and how important it is for their emotional well being to be safe as well as comfortable. Debra's goal is to be the type of home she'd want to leave her pets at. Debra and Paul raised two sons and their family was active in both 4H and Boy Scouts, both sons attaining their Eagle Scout Ranking and moving on to their careers in Engineering and IT. In addition to taking care of the farm, Debra enjoys playing her harp and piano and often listens to soothing music - classical, jazz (primarily Bossa Nova), reggae and soft rock. Debra is a retired procurement manager retiring from Boeing in March 2018 after 31 years with the company. Boeing entrusted Debra to manage 14 buyers responsible for contracts with an annual spend of several million dollars for both commercial and defense markets making her a mature, responsible, trustworthy person to have in your home or hers managing your pet's needs. Debra and Paul cordially invite your fur babies to their farm 'Debra's Farm Bed and Biscuit' for a stay, play and snack extraordinaire. If your fur baby gets excited on his/her return trip to our farm, then we've done our job!

Information Debra M. would like to know about your pet

GENERAL Debra limits the number of dogs she boards at a time to two. She books dogs based on their personalities, not strictly on whether she has space or not. Debra desires the best experience for your dog as well as hers, so she's an excellent choice for timid dogs or those who've had bad experiences with other dogs in the past. Special needs dogs may be asked to pay at the puppy rate if their care requires additional time or cleaning. PET SAFETY Debra takes great care in keeping your dog safe. She has the ability to separate dogs into their own area should they have issues that can't be corrected by commands and redirection. These segregated areas are used when it's time to eat to ensure everyone eats their own food. Debra also has infection control and sanitation protocols in place. VACCINATIONS, FLEAS & AGGRESSION SURVEY Debra would like verification dogs are up to date on basic vaccinations. Please provide a copy of the latest exam and vaccination record.
