Reviews
Deb and James are wonderful dog hosts! I always feel confident that Happy and Frida are well looked after and given lots of love and walks.
Deb and James are the best! We had to travel overseas and felt completely comfortable leaving our senior, slightly anxious dog with them. They cared for her like she was their own. Couldn't ask for better dog sitters.
Deb & James were amazing as usual. This was Olive’s 3 time with them. She is never sad that we are leaving and has a great time playing fetch, walking and of course couch cuddles. Olive can wait to come back in Aug.
It’s always hard leaving your pet with someone new but after an initial meet and greet with Deb and James and another follow-up closer to the boarding date we were confident it work out fine. Deb is really good at communication, and sent lots of pictures and updates while we were away which we really appreciated. I know Bentley was getting lots of pets and treats and snuggles while he was with them. I’m a very grateful pet parent!

The Bad • My husband is incorrigible about being perfectly comfortable with dogs jumping up on him and will never say “no” to a four-legged friend. I will redirect and attempt to ensure your normal rules of acceptable behaviour are followed but I cannot guarantee my husband will be so “hard nosed.” 😊 • We have been known to give the occasional treat (but NEVER from the table). We would obviously check on what is acceptable for your dog because it absolutely about safety and their health first. • Yes. Dogs do sit on our couches, chairs, anywhere they darn well like in our house. We have to draw the line at them sleeping in our bed though – it’s a space issue! *Last, but not least, one of us has a back issue and the other, a shoulder problem. This means that any dogs who pull significantly on their leash are quite difficult for us to walk properly. If your dog doesn't do reasonably well on a leash (especially if they are larger or stronger), we may not be the best fit for them.*

Information Deb & James K. would like to know about your pet
We would appreciate knowing your dog's normal routine so we can provide care that is as close to their regular day at home as possible. We want them to be relaxed and happy with a stress free stay with us. We'd like to know what time they usually eat and what kinds of extras they can be given (if anything.) Are they on medications? What are their favourite things to do and are there things they don't like? Small details like these and others are often the most important ones to us so that we can provide the most loving and happy stay for your pup.
A typical day
Walks! Outdoor play time....Indoor play time ....Hikes in the woods...Visits with friends if your dog enjoys people....Snuggling time (if they like this!) Generally chatting together, possibly singing a song or two and most importantly, enjoying one another's company.

Let’s start with the GOOD stuff: • We are a mature couple with many years of experience owning and loving dogs as our family members. In our home, dogs are regarded as nothing less than a shade below royalty. We love them more than some people, truth be told • We have a good-sized fenced yard for your dog and we also like be outside. We go for walks every day and often on longer hikes on the weekends. Your dog will have daily exercise geared to their age and needs. • We live less than 5 minutes from a lovely walking trail. Ugly disclaimer: We typically do sidewalk walking for much of the year to reduce the possibility of picking up ticks in the woods. If it’s winter time, hiking and walking IN the woods are a “go” for us and your treasured pup too • We know stuff about dogs and dog behaviour. We aren’t trainers or vets but my husband has owned several large breed dogs in his lifetime and I have had several medium sized dogs myself over the past 45 years. We also take care of dogs for friends on a fairly regular basis. As such, we are pretty comfortable with any things your pet might need. Are they on a special diet? We’re ON it! Do they have to be given medication? We have it covered. Do they have lots of play time? HECK YES. We expect dogs to bark to communicate. We anticipate they might want to sit on the couch to look out the window. We’re cool – we have it covered • We are good communicators most of the time and are happy to send you updates/ progress reports. We will rely on you to let us know if that is something you'd find helpful or not. If you are a little nervous about leaving your pet we'll update you as you prefer. Likewise, we are also really good at reassuring, snuggling with, entertaining and distracting “Rover” if he is a bit sad when you leave. We’ve got this! • People actually pay us to take photographs sometimes. That being said, it means we will send you a photograph or two so you know that your sweetie is safe and happy while you are away. Who knows-- it might even be a framer! • If you tell us that its okay, your dog will go virtually everywhere we go. Car rides? –Yes. For a walk to the pub and a visit with some locals if they enjoy meeting people with? YES! The Santa Claus Parade- Of course! • We are a non-smoking home • We have no pets of our own at the moment meaning we have undivided attention to share with your dog. Our hearts have not quite mended from losing our last loves—Sydnee, over ten years ago and Milly, quite recently. • We adore kids (almost always) but our kids are all adults and live on their own. Again – this translates into undivided attention for your dog.
