Daily walks, lots of love & K9 pal

Pet care experience

About Me- and my dog….and cat I usually share my life with multiple dogs at a time, but right now I only have Dolly, a 6 y/o newfie/poodle - i guess that’s a noodle? anyway, Dolly is really affectionate and in true doodle style, she is full of life and loves everyone. I love having a “pack” and this is why I enjoy dog-sitting through Rover. I have a cat. Last fall I took in and adopted a stray, MewMew. He’s totally chill with dogs and as long as your pup or pups do not have a strong prey-drive, everything should be totally fine. Puppies? I love puppies, and have a lot of experience with them, but I don't work from home anymore, and I don't feel I would be able to provide the attention and interaction puppies need. I prefer to take care of dogs who are past that early development stage and who are pretty well behaved (house trained, no chewing or jumping onto the table). I work 10-6ish M-F, so it is important that your dog be alright with being at home unsupervised. I am around on the weekends, but never away for more than 8 hours. Adventure time Dolly and I go on daily walks around the neighborhood and I take her regularly to the local dog parks, the Arboretum or Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. If you’re cool with me taking your dogs on such an adventure, I’d love for them to get out of the house. Experience • Administering medicine - good at hiding pills in treats but I am also comfortable with "manually"giving meds. • I am patient with older dogs and am good at helping them get around. • Preparing "special" meals for dogs with sensitive digestive systems • Throwing a ball / stick / squeaky toy for extended periods of time- lol. You should know: I only host one dog or dog family at a time. It is safer for everyone. BUT love to watch multiple dogs, because I enjoy having the dynamic of a dog pack in the house. So, if you have a multi-dog family, they’d all be welcome in my home. Special needs dog? If you know your dog will need special care - please let me know at the time of your request. I have experience with older dogs who need assistance walking, getting up / down stairs, wear diapers or are recovering from surgery / wound care. I would prefer to watch dogs who require extra attention as solo stays. This is to ensure the safety of your pet and avoid the unnecessary stress to your dog if there are too many other dogs in the house. Another benefit of your dog being the only one I am boarding, they will get all of the attention, cuddles and belly rubs they deserve. I charge $60/night for this type of care. Drop Ins I work in Alexandria & Arlington and I have a flexible schedule, so I am available during the day for drop ins / cat visits in NOVA during the week. I am not able for drop-ins located in MD or DC. I can care for your other animals /small pets If you have cats, other small animals or fish, I can visit your home to feed and entertain your little guys. I can also water plants, alternate lights, adjust curtains and bring in the mail.

Dawn is our go to dog sitter. She’s the best and if don’t pick her you’re just choosing someone who doesn’t care as much about your dog, or dogs.

Information Dawn B. would like to know about your pet

The most important thing for me to know is your dog’s daily routine. Keeping their routine as close to what they are used to will make it less stressful for them, and really, everyone. House Trained? I totally understand the rare situation of marking in the house - but I ask that your dog be 100% house trained and able to control their bladder/bowels while in the house. I do have a full time job and I never leave anyone home alone for more than 8- 8 1/2 hours. Feeding How many times a day to you feed your dog(s)? When? Are they food aggressive? Are they food obsessed? Do you give them treats? When? How often? Exercise Does your dog go on daily walks? How many walks per day? How long of a walk? Are they well behaved on the leash? Do they chase after neighborhood squirrels or cats? Are they dog aggressive when on the leash? Behavior Is your dog house trained? Do they ever have “accidents” or "mark" inside the house? Are they cool with cats? Does your dog try to escape? climb fences? able to unlock gates? bolts when you open the door to come in/ go out? Does your dog enjoy riding in the car? Do they get car sick? Is your dog afraid of or react to thunderstorms? fireworks? What can I do to comfort them? Things you should bring for your dog: • Leash • Dog food • Any medicine they will need plus instructions as to how /when to administer. • Comfort items such as a bed/ blanket or crate (if that’s your dog’s thing), favorite toy or special treats. FYI: I have plenty of toys, and you dog(s) are more then welcome to play with those. Maddie is completely non-possessive with it comes to her stuff. I also have treats. I admit that I do really like larger dogs, but I am good with all sizes. I do prefer not to watch very small / toy breeds (under 10 pounds).

A typical day

During the week, I work full-time, so, I am not available mid-day for walks or potty breaks. I am not away from the house for more than 8 hours M-F. Our routine We normally get up around 6:30-7. I let Dolly out first thing. Then they come inside and get breakfast. I let them out again. Then somewhere between 7:30-8:30, we go for a short 20 minute walk. I get ready and I let her out before I leave for work (10:30-11ish). I get home around 6-6:30 and let her out first thing. Then, dinner and out again. In the evening, we go on a longer walk sometime between 8-10. And then, out one last time before bed, around 11. Exercise Daily walks in the morning and evening. On the weekends during the spring, summer, and early fall I do spend weekend afternoons in the yard - doing yard work or taking care of the garden. If its not too hot out for the dogs, they spend that time outside with me, chasing each other or just basking in the sun. They are never left outside in the yard alone. Sleeping Dolly has several beds through out the house. She is not territorial and are cool with other dogs sharing / using those. If it would make it easier for your dog to bring his/her own bed, that’s ok too. If your dog uses a crate (I know some dogs feel safer in their own space and use a crate at home) – I have a spare room for that. If your dog wants to sleep on the bed, I’m fine with that as well.
