Flexible, friendly and creative pet care services

Pet care experience

My wife and I have owned many breeds and blends of dogs, horses, ponies, cats, chincillas, varieties of fish and mice over the years. At home we currently have 5 equines, a dog, 4 chickens and a rescue mouse. We have bred Finnish Spitz, hatched chicks, always gently trained our dogs, have a close relationship with our vet, and have cared for pets who have had serious (and sometimes rare) illnesses. We have always had pets and in both our parents homes, pets have been part of our lives from childhood. Moya came from a Gloucestershire mixed farm and we had beagles in our family. I dedicate my free time to animals, sailing and dancing, keeps me both fit and always ready for adventure. We have always formed close relationships with our animals and expect to be quickly accepted by others peoples pets - using creative strategies and patiance to achieve a bond.

David, looked after our 10 year old border terrier last year, when we went away on holiday. Pepper is on regular medication and can be anxious. David walked her and gave us regular updates and photos, which reassured us she was happy on her own holiday. We will certainly be using David's dog care services again.

David took exceptional care of our Terrier, Basil, whilst I was away. Having a dog with special requirements for exercise and a very strict diet means management is a concern when I have to leave him in care. However, David coped easily with my detailed requirements. Besides this I returned to a house which was tidier than I left it!! All toys away (apart from favorites), water bowl filled and meal portions ready to go – and next time I will feel happy to leave Basil longer. 😊

Safety, trust & environment

We will talk through your pet's routines, likes, treats and expectations. Together we will ensure it is clear where your pet is allowed to go within your home, outside and where their favourite walks are. We will also confirm any dietary needs, simple medication if needed, play expectations and general entertainment. The aim is to build early trust with your pet and that the sitting, visiting or walking experience is positive for all. I will contact you if I have have any concerns, you will be sent some photos during the care period for reassurance and we will agree a course of action over the phone if possible should an important issue arise - health, visitor etc. We will also go through the emergency procedure for your home if necessary and immediate response procedures + contact numbers/arrangements (neighbour contact for instance). A checklist for the walker/sitter/drop-in: Lead(s), Food for the relevant period. Rewards, Collar with tag, Harness if needed, Toys, Separate items (if necessary) when there is more than one dog. Emergency food available if you are delayed. Ok with other dogs or bitches that may be met on a walk. Good off the lead or needs to stay on the lead. Approx how far can your pet walk and do you allow socialising when out and about especially in fenced pet areas.

Information David Y. would like to know about your pet

Pet's name, food, meds and drink needs, preferances, quirks or characteristics that would be useful to know. Does weather make a difference.... helpful commands.... etc Any risks in your home that I should know about and plan around.

A typical day

Entertainment and excercise and feeding times are essential for having a positive environment and happy experisnce for your pet. We will play games with your pet's toys, and maybe invent games togther, ensure there is every opportunity to go to the 'toilet', eat according to diet, drink water and go to favourite walking locations - as well as maybe sleep a little...

We are both recently retired so am pretty flexible in meeting your and your pet's particular needs - and can often respond quickly to the unexpected. We now have a little time to 'give back' by sharing our care experiences - we are always learning - and proven ability to secure the trust of a pet, so that they feel accepted, reassured and able to invite us into their lives, albeit briefly.
