Former Dog Trainer

Pet care experience

I grew up with pets - my parents were given a puppy soon after I was born. As a kid, we had dogs, birds, lizards, rabbits, and fish. As an adult, for years my work hours were too long to have a dog, so I remedied that by quitting my job and buying a dog training franchise. For 10 years I taught dog owners how to address behavior challenges such as aggression, sibling rivalry, jumping, pulling on the leash, destructive behavior, etc. An opportunity to live in Europe prompted me to step away from the dog training, but now that I'm back in the U.S., I'm looking to work with dogs again in a different capacity - as a dog walker and pet sitter. I'm comfortable with dogs of all sizes and ages, and can handle multiple dogs at once. I'm also comfortable with challenging dogs - while I don't want to return to dog training, I can work with clients to determine what it would take for a fearful or aggressive dog to accept my care. So if you have a dog who is slow to accept new people, let me know - we'll see if we can work your pal through that anxiety!

David was great with Buster and Hayley! We really appreciated his quick response, great walks, and kindness with my two pups. They were super happy when we got home thanks to David.

Information David S. would like to know about your pet

I'm open to all breeds, sizes, and ages. Just give me advance warning if, say, they're likely to be aggressive or be so enthusiastically friendly that they could knock me down the stairs. NOTE - HOUSE SITTING RATE DOES NOT INCLUDE MID-DAY WALKS. The house-sitting rate includes evening and morning walks, feeding, etc. However, since the number of mid-day walks a dog needs can vary greatly, mid-day walks must be booked separately.

A typical day

Where we go will be catered to the individual dog - I'm OK with long walks in the city or Rock Creek, spending time at the dog park, taking slow ambles near home, hanging out and watching the world go by, playing games in the home, or petting a pooch until my arm goes numb. I'm flexible - what we do will depend on the needs and abilities of the dog and the desires of the owner. And as somebody who has been around A LOT of dogs, I'm OK with pretty much any dog behavior that is OK with the owners - I've been jumped on, mouthed, licked excessively, and slobbered on countless times and don't mind such things as long as they're not a violation of the rules of the household.
