We miss taking care of dogs.
Pet care experience
We love dogs but have not had any since our two 17 year-old litter-mate rescue-dogs that we raised from puppies passed away from old age. We loved them so much and it was hard on us to see them age together and to lose them around the same time. We want to have dogs around us again but still are not ready to commit to another lifetime. When we heard about rover.com it sounded like a great way to have short term company of dogs and provide a service to other dog owners at the same time. Over the years we have taken care of other dogs for friends and family, rescued other dogs, and briefly fostered a dog once that was adopted. We are professionals with no children and work close by. Our schedules are flexible if necessary and I can work from home occasionally.

I have known Dave and his wife Marie for 10 years. Dave is one of the first truly committed dog lovers I have met over the years. At the time we met, Dave and Marie had two elderly dogs and showed nothing but love and patience for them through all their mental and physical illnesses. Dave and Marie routinely spend time with our beloved Rottweiler and French Bulldog and love them both equally, regardless of their considerable differences in size and temperament. I trust Dave deeply as a friend and colleague, and could not recommend him more as a dog sitter!

We love all types of dogs but prefer smaller ones between 10-25 lbs. That is what we are used to. We had 2 schnauzers for 17 years and loved their energy when they were younger, but also would prefer dogs that did not bark as much as they did. We prefer not to have dogs on furniture (but that does not mean our dogs kept off our couch and bed — we tried but it was hard) so we would like to know if the dogs expect to be up on things.
A typical day
We have a great neighborhood for lots of walks. We miss seeing the other dog owners out in our neighborhood, so there will be plenty of walks. We wil also go to the local dog park or go for walks near the ocean if that is something a dog we sat for liked to do. Mainly we will be two people who are starved for dogs to play with and pet.
