Let me tell you about Darin and my loving Miniature Schnauser Patrick. Today is Patrick’s birthday...he would have turned 13 years old today. Patrick was the center of my universe, and I’m privileged to say that I was the center of his. Patrick was only 5 weeks older than my other Miniature Schnauser, Seanie, who died suddenly almost 2 years ago. When Sean died, Patrick became very insecure and anxious (they were never apart during their entire lifetimes). Patrick’s separation anxiety became so significant that I could not...and would not ever leave him by himself. That’s when Darin became Patrick’s sitter, and friend. Darin faithfully came to my home every morning to stay with Patrick while I went to work. If I needed to leave the house for any reason (shopping, errands, evening out, etc), Darin would come and take care of Patrick, making him feel secure and safe. When I needed to travel overnight for business (2 or 3 nights at a time), Darin would stay in my home and take excellent care of my adorable Patrick. Sometimes I would have to travel for 7 to 10 days at a time, but I never worried about Patrick...Darin would stay at my home to feed him, administer his medication, and take him for long walks. I was both confident and comfortable knowing that Patrick was being cared-for with the same amount of love and attention that he was use to receiving from me. Darin fell in love with Patrick...and Patrick loved Darin very much. Every morning Patrick would wait inside my front door waiting for Darin to arrive greeting him with a big hug. (It’s true...animals are a better judge of humans than humans are !). Right up to Patrick’s very last day on this earth, Darin was there for him. Frankly, I don’t how I could have managed during Patrick’s illness without Darin’s help. Darin is responsible, punctual, reliable, intelligent, mature and respectful. His character and integrity are above reproach. He has a key to my home and security system, and I trusted him with the most treasured part of my life...my Patrick. Someday I will have another dog (I’m still working through the grieving process following Patrick’s death). Darin is fantastic with dogs and extremely reliable. He treats our dog so well and always takes him on nice, long walks/runs. He is our go-to sitter if we ever need one.
