I have had dogs from a very young age of 8 years old, majority rescued. I trained all from adult ages to do for the least, the basic training including potty training, sit, stay, lay down, up and paw. Friends, family and neighbours have relied on me to walk their dogs and take care of their dogs in their absence and through this I have cared for a broad range of different dogs of different breeds, ages, sizes and temperaments. All my encounters with dogs are fun and loving and dogs naturally warm up to me very quickly. I have been able to pick up on several different cues from dogs and learnt how to read their body language to help me care for them better. I take animal care very seriously and treat animals like family. With that being said I reinforce positive behaviour, and I am understanding of bad behaviour by not immediately thinking anything bad is automatically the dog's fault (e.g. if a dog had a potty accident in the house, I ask myself if I had missed a cue to go outside) and speak to all animals lovingly with the time and affection they deserve. I currently have a 16 month old English Mastiff cross called Kobe which my partner and I rescued. I personally trained him in behaviour and skills from scratch from the age of about 10 months when we got him. I also trained him to unlearn his bad habits that his previous owners did not care to correct. I taught him sit, lay down (and go to bed), stay and up. With these trainings extended to increasing discipline whereby I can leave the room for considerable time after giving a command such as sit and come back to Kobe sitting in the same position I left him in. Kobe and I have training sessions every morning and go for walks at least once a day with much longer walks on weekends. I am slowly and consistently expanding his training to challenge him as well as improving his behaviour (such as on walks to be more focused - since he is a prey driven breed, natural instincts take over so this is a more challenging area and so takes more effort and time). I am very patient and understanding with dogs and have learnt to pick up on their behaviour and cues over time. I care for dogs as if they are children (after all they are dependants on us owners) and ensure they get the best care from quality time, diet, exercise, health and mental stimulation. I take caring for dogs and animals in general very seriously and would treat any other dog/animal as if they were my own. I love animals and I think it's fair to say they love me back :)
