Former Zookeeper Now Pet Sitting
Pet care experience
I have been caring for pets my entire life. We always had dogs and cats growing up and from an early age I was part of the care routine. My love for animals is so great I pursued a degree in zoology and worked as a zookeeper for 8 years in North Carolina. My animal training background is extensive! My husband and I moved to Pittsburgh 4 years ago and have since started our own family, meaning I've put my zookeeper career up on the shelf for now to focus on my own little humans. We currently have one dog (pure bred mutt!) who is eleven and two ball pythons. I am able to take in home pets, as well as visits to your home, based on your preferences. I have an extensive background taking care of snakes/reptiles, small mammals, birds, fish, livestock, and more! I am also available for one on one animal training sessions and behavior adjustments with any of your own animals during my visits. I've trained everything from rhinos to puffins and everything in between. Whether you're looking for basic obedience or something outside of the ordinary let me know! Dana, Was solely responsible for both of my cats, for an extended time period. She was an amazing help! The best part was talking with her and hearing her genuine interest in their individual personalities. She is not only extremely trustworthy and caring but has an extensive animal background. This helped greatly when one of my cats became ill. Dana made the best discussion for both me and my cat. I cannot say enough good things about her and would highly recommend her many times over!!!!

We have two small children in the house who are gentle with all animals. We highly reinforce that the kids are to treat animals with respect and that they should "know better" when dealing with animals, even though they are young. However, we don't approach dogs we don't know without asking because some dogs aren't as friendly as others. If you have an aggressive dog or one that is uncomfortable around children, especially toddler age children, we may not be a good fit for an "at our house" pet sitting experience. I would be happy to travel to yours to take care of your pet in the comfort of his or her own home.
A typical day
We go on multiple daily walks around our neighborhood (or yours!), trips to the dog park if your dog is able to play nice in group settings. We also love to go hiking and spend time hitting the trails at local and state parks!
