Nice fenced yard.

Pet care experience

I am a laid back, fun-loving person that is balanced with safe, matter-of-fact boundaries which I have learned to do parenting 3 boys and many years working with kiddos in schools. My adult son, Garrett, no longer lives in our home, but sometimes he might come over help out. He is a gentle soul that LOVES dogs. In 2009 we rescued a Rotty-mix dog (Griz) that showed up at my in-laws' farm. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of training him and restoring his trust in humans. I also learned so much about dog training in general through the experience. He was a spark of life to our aging lab we had at the time. Sadly, Grizzy crossed the rainbow bridge in June 2020. In 2013 we purchased a German Shorthaired Pointer for bird hunting and as a family pet. She is just a joy! I loved training her from puppy to grown up doggie. She is a fetching fiend and well-behaved lady but full of energy! I LOVE working with dogs and challenging their intelligence with hide and seek and find the treat games. I love the challenge of teaching dogs new tricks and teaching them to be well-behaved. I'm currently working with my dog to be good off-leash trail/hiking companion. I look forward to meeting, loving on and working with your fur babies!! Please read below for more information of what to expect at a meet and greet as well as a "normal" day. I look forward to seeing your service request in my inbox! We are up and about M-F by 6:30 am and whenever dogs need up on the weekends. August - May I often take substitute teaching jobs near my home. If I have guest pups on those days, they still get outside time before I leave, 4 hours later and then in the afternoons and evenings. Your pup is always treated as if s/he were one of my own with lovingkindness and gentle firmness for the safety of myself and your pup.

As usual my dogs raced into Dana’s house at drop off without so much as another look. They love having their own personnel vacations at Dana’s house while we were out of town!

Information Dana S. would like to know about your pet

I require a meet and greet appointment for all new clients. Every dog is different regardless of its breed. As you can see from my reviews, my system works. During the meet and greet we will discuss your pups needs/habits of exercise, eating and night-time routine and any other special needs your pup may have. I do not bring my dog outside for meet and greets after having a prospective client attacked my dog. This is non-negotiable. From my experience and research, pups best get to know each other without their owners nearby as they become protective of their owners. I once had over ten dogs in my home. It took a couple of days getting everyone acquainted, but after those couple of days, they all played freely and safely together outside and lounged inside with no problems. My system is working well.

A typical day

What to expect when your pup stays with me: We are up and awake by 6:30. Mornings for dogs is whatever suits them (feedings, exercise, cuddle time....). Most days I am at home; however, I have no set schedule as I often get requests to substitute teach in the schools near my home. If I have your pup on a teaching day, s/he will get plenty of exercise before I leave and a 30 minute outside break within 4 hours. Any time I am away from my home, the personality and behaviors of your dog will determine if he/she are left to roam freely in a specified area of my home or if she/he need to be crated. That will be thoroughly discussed with you during our meet and greet. I have 3 separate levels to my home which gives us many options for accommodating several clients at the same time. Dogs are never left unsupervised with dogs from other households. Afternoons and evenings pups have plenty of outside time both being independent and playing with me. They also have free lounging time inside alongside my own pup or other clients if they are all getting along.
